The Recovery Center of Maryland is looking for a highly skilled Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC) who assesses, diagnoses, and treats individuals experiencing emotional, psychological, and behavioral challenges by providing individual and group counseling, developing treatment plans, and collaborating with other professionals. Key responsibilities include maintaining confidential client records, advocating for clients, referring them to community resources, and helping them develop coping skills and strategies for managing their conditions. The role requires a master's degree, state licensure, strong listening and communication skills, and expertise in various evidence-based counseling modalities.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Assessment and Diagnosis: Evaluate clients' mental and physical health, review their information, conduct interviews, and perform tests to identify issues such as anxiety, depression, trauma, addiction, and relationship problems.
- Treatment Planning: Develop and implement individualized treatment plans, modify them as client needs change, and establish goals for recovery and behavior modification.
- Counseling and Skill-Building: Provide a safe, confidential environment for clients to express concerns, develop insights, and learn skills to manage their conditions and improve their overall well-being.
- Client Advocacy: Act as an advocate to coordinate required services or resolve emergency problems in crisis situations.
- Referral and Resource Linkage: Refer clients and their families to community resources, support groups, and specialists to provide comprehensive care.
- Documentation and Record Keeping: Maintain accurate, confidential client records, including progress notes and treatment plans, while adhering to all federal and state regulations.
- Collaboration: Work with other mental health professionals, family members, and staff to assess client needs and develop coordinated treatment plans.
- Crisis Intervention: Respond to emergencies and intervene in crisis situations to provide assistance and support.
Required Skills and Qualifications
- Education: A master's degree in counseling, psychology, social work, or a related field.
- Licensure: Hold a valid state license to practice as a mental health counselor.
- Clinical Experience: Gain hands-on clinical experience to effectively treat clients.
- Interpersonal Skills: Possess strong communication, listening, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills.
- Knowledge Base: Maintain a solid understanding of psychology, therapy, counseling techniques, and various evidence-based modalities.

Requirements
- Master’s degree in Social Work, Counseling, or related field plus one year of clinical experience in an alcohol or other drugs (AOD) or mental health setting preferred; or
- Bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Counseling; AND
- Active LPC, LSW, LMFT licensure by the Counselor, Social Worker, and Marriage and Family Therapy Board or LCDCII /LCDCIII/ LICDC licensure from the Maryland Chemical Dependency Professionals Board
