Regional Economic Community Action Program (RECAP) is seeking a dedicated Per Diem Counselor to join our Outpatient Substance Use Disorder Program in Middletown, NY. The Per Diem Counselor plays a vital role in supporting our multidisciplinary team, providing clinical and supportive services on an as-needed basis to ensure continuity of care and effective crisis intervention. Responsibilities
- Facilitate psychoeducational, relapse prevention, and recovery-oriented group counseling sessions for individuals with substance use disorders.
- Provide crisis intervention, emotional support, and stabilization services as needed.
- Conduct psychosocial assessments and assist in developing individualized treatment recommendations.
- Collaborate with the multidisciplinary treatment team regarding patient progress, clinical concerns, and discharge planning.
- Administer and document toxicology screenings in accordance with program policies and regulatory requirements.
- Complete timely, accurate, and comprehensive clinical documentation in the electronic medical record (EMR).
- Maintain confidentiality and comply with all applicable federal, state, agency, and OASAS regulations, including HIPAA and 42 CFR Part 2.
- Assist with patient engagement, referrals, and coordination of care as needed.
- Participate in staff meetings, trainings, and supervision when required.
- Support overall program operations and patient care needs during staff absences, increased census, or other operational demands.
Qualifications

Must possess one of the following credentials:
- CASAC-T (Credentialed Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Counselor Trainee)
- CASAC (Credentialed Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Counselor)
- Qualified Health Professional (QHP) licensed by the New York State Education Department (NYSED)
- Knowledge of substance use disorder treatment modalities, recovery principles, relapse prevention strategies, and OASAS standards.
- Ability to effectively manage crisis situations and maintain professional boundaries.
- Strong communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.
- Proficiency in electronic medical record systems and basic computer applications.
- Ability to maintain accurate documentation and meet deadlines.
- Preferred: Previous experience in an outpatient substance use disorder treatment setting.
- Preferred: Experience facilitating groups and conducting assessments.
- Preferred: Familiarity with OASAS regulations and documentation standards.
- Physical ability to sit, stand, move throughout the facility, perform toxicology screenings, and respond appropriately in crisis or emergency situations.
Compensation
CASAC-T: $23.50 per hour
CASAC/QHP: $26.00$30.00 per hour
This is a per diem, as-needed position with flexible scheduling within program operating hours (8:30 am4:30 pm).
