Position: Director of Operations
Location: Charlotte, NC (Hybrid – up to 2 remote days/week)
Status: Full-time, Exempt
Reports to: Executive Director
Salary Range: $70,000 – $85,000, commensurate with experience
Position Summary
Rebuilding Together of Greater Charlotte (RTGC) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit with a mission of repairing homes, revitalizing communities, and rebuilding lives. RTGC brings our community together to address the affordable housing crisis by mobilizing contractors and volunteers from across the region to complete projects that make homes and communities safer and healthier for our neighbors.
As an affiliate of the national Rebuilding Together network, RTGC benefits from shared resources, peer learning, and national visibility. Currently in a phase of rapid growth, RTGC is working to strengthen its back-office operations, and the Director of Operations will play an integral role in that effort.
The Director of Operations is responsible for providing leadership, management, and vision necessary to run the day-to-day operations of RTGC. This includes oversight of finance, grant and program operations, human resources, information technology, and general office and facilities management. The Director of Operations serves as a key member of the senior leadership team and directly supervises the full-time Program Coordinator.
Primary Responsibilities
Finance
- Oversee financial operations, ensuring adherence to accounting standards and nonprofit regulatory compliance.
- Lead the creation and monitoring of the annual organizational budget in collaboration with the Executive Director.
- Manage organizational cash flow and forecasting to ensure financial stability.
- Submit reimbursements for government grants in accordance with funding requirements.
- Provide fiscal data and support for grant proposals and reports.
- Lead the audit process, including documentation and liaison with external auditors and accountants.
Grant and Program Operations
- Maintain documentation and compliance for all grants and contracts.
- Produce and submit reporting for grants.
- Co-lead client intake and eligibility determination with the Program Coordinator, ensuring alignment with grant requirements.
- Oversee the implementation of client satisfaction and program impact surveys to evaluate service quality and outcomes.
- Coordinate with the Construction team to ensure project scheduling aligns with grant deadlines and volunteer project needs.
- Assist with project budgeting and tracking to ensure alignment with available funding and grant restrictions.
Human Resources
- Ensure compliance with labor laws and best practices through up-to-date personnel policies and employee handbook.
- Coordinate recruitment, hiring, onboarding, and separation processes.
- Administer compensation and benefits in partnership with an external payroll provider.
- Collaborate with the Executive Director on workforce planning and organizational structure.
- Prepare and facilitate monthly staff meetings and quarterly team-building events.
Information Technology
- Manage IT systems and equipment to ensure reliability and cybersecurity.
- Oversee data systems, including Salesforce, ensuring data integrity for compliance, reporting, and operations.
- Coordinate external tech support as needed to minimize system interruptions.
General Office Operations and Facilities
- Manage office and facilities operations, including equipment procurement, maintenance, and supply inventory.
- Ensure a safe, well-functioning, and professional work environment.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Passion for RTGC’s mission and a commitment to serving low-income and diverse communities.
- Bachelor’s degree, preferably in nonprofit management, finance, HR, or a related field.
- At least 3 years of experience in finance, operations, grants management, or a related field.
- Strong organizational and project management skills with attention to detail and the ability to multitask in a fast-growing environment.
- Adaptability, professionalism, and the ability to thrive under pressure.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills; experience working with diverse audiences.
- Strong problem-solving skills and interest in improving systems and processes.
- Proficiency in or ability to quickly learn QuickBooks, Microsoft Office, Salesforce, and online donor platforms.
Physical and Other Requirements
- Ability to regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
- Ability to stand, walk, use hands, reach, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, talk, and hear as needed.
- Valid driver’s license and ability to travel locally as required. Mileage reimbursed at the standard IRS rate if using a personal vehicle.
Work Schedule & Environment
- RTGC offers a hybrid work schedule, with the opportunity to work remotely up to two days per week.
- This position is primarily office-based with occasional local travel to project sites, meetings, and events.
Compensation & Benefits
We offer a competitive salary within the range of $70,000–$85,000 based on experience, with the potential for a 5% annual performance bonus and a comprehensive benefits package:
- Paid Holidays: 11 paid holidays, including MLK Jr. Day, Juneteenth, Thanksgiving (2 days), and full office closure the weeks of Christmas and New Year’s.
- Paid Time Off:
- 15 days of PTO in the first year, increasing to 20 days starting in year four
- 5 days of annual sick leave
- Parental Leave: 8 weeks of 100% paid parental leave after 6 months of employment
