What are the responsibilities and job description for the Accounting Assistant position at Realty Resources Management?
JOB SUMMARY
Under general supervision employee will be asked to assist Accounting staff with various day-to-day tasks. Tasks include but not limited to Accounts Receivable and Accounts Payable data entry and filing, bank reconciliation, and other general accounting tasks. Attention to detail and ability to multitask are essential. Ability to work independently required. Willingness to learn, adapt, and professional telephone techniques required. High degree of organizational skills required.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS • Working with a Property Managers to establish annual budgets for USDA, HUD and Maine State Housing and for over 80 properties. • Record and Manage monthly mortgage splits, tax and insurance funding, a variety of reconciliations, property move-out reports and special claims reporting as well as assisting in the reporting on fuel cost spreadsheets. • Prepare year-end files and work with Auditors. • Have the ability to cross-train with A/R and A/P for coverage during vacations. • Perform other miscellaneous duties as assigned. • Reconciliation of bank statements is done at the first of the month by using the computer system software to reconcile bank statements to properties respective account. Other functions could be, but not limited to entering approved GL entries
QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge: Correct English usage, grammar, spelling, punctuation, and arithmetic; modern office methods, procedures and equipment, and business letter and report writing; fundamental record keeping principles and procedures, and filing systems. Ability to work with diverse ethnic and low-income families in a professional manner. Ability to work with outside contractors and businesses. Ability to deal tactfully with a variety of people under constantly changing circumstances using tact and diplomacy. Ability to handle emergency situations and pressure due to complexity and time sensitivity.

Accounting Assistant
Skill: Following oral and written directions, working and interacting effectively with others, learning rapidly, and interpreting/applying laws, rules, and office policies and procedures. Typing accurately, communicating tactfully and effectively in both oral and written form; working independently in the absence of supervision. Analyzing situations carefully and adopting effective courses of action; compiling/maintaining complex and extensive records/files; preparing reports and composing correspondence independently. Organizational skills, attention to detail and proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite required.
Education/Experience: Any combination of education and experience providing the required skill and knowledge for successful performance would be qualifying. Typical qualifications would be equivalent to:
1.Completion of the twelfth (12th) grade, supplemented by specialized secretarial courses; and
2.Experience in Accounting/Bookkeeping and QuickBooks are helpful.
