Role Description
This is a part-time hybrid summer internship located in Bellingham, Washington for a Journalist Intern. The position is unpaid, but offers meaningful, hands-on experience covering real civic issues with a growing nonprofit. We are happy to work with your institution to help you earn college credit for your time with us. Depending on grant funding, there is potential for this role to become a paid position in the future.
The Journalist Intern will assist in covering local government meetings and producing written content for various formats, including news articles, press releases, and research summaries. Core responsibilities include gathering information through research, writing and editing news pieces, and engaging in broadcasting tasks to ensure accurate and timely communication of RHRI's initiatives. The role emphasizes maintaining journalistic integrity and contributing to the organization's mission of housing policy reform.
Qualifications
- Strong writing skills, including news writing and general writing
- Experience with crafting press releases to communicate information effectively
- Proficiency in research to gather and analyze data and insights
- Familiarity with broadcasting tasks to deliver engaging and accurate information
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to work independently and collaborate onsite with a team in the Greater Seattle Area
- Demonstrated interest in housing policy, public affairs, or a related field
- Background in journalism, communications, or a related discipline is a plus
- Currently enrolled in a university program or recently graduated
