POSITION SUMMARY:

The nurse instructs and directs employees and staff to promote the mental and physical health of employees. To accomplish the following services under major responsibilities and duties as established as by the Standards of Staff Nursing Practice in accordance with the Texas Nurse Practice Act.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Practices within the defined limits of the Texas Nurse Practice Act, the American Nurses Association Standards of Clinical Nursing practice, and the Standards of Staff Nursing Practice of the National Association of Staff Nurses.
2. Complies with Texas Department of Health regulations.
3. Plans, implements, and supervises Staff health screening and referring medical conditions and makes referrals in a timely manner.
4. Provides temporary and emergency care for sick and injured employees.
5. Provides health and wellness programs to employees.
6. Promotes and assists in the control of communicable diseases through preventive immunization programs early detection, surveillance, and reporting of contagious diseases.
7. Report potential health and safety hazards to management and safety personnel.
8. Recommends provisions for a staff environment conducive to the work environment.
9. Provides health information to assist employees in making health-related decisions.
10. Participates in health education directly and indirectly for the improvement of health by teaching persons to become more assertive health consumers and to assume greater responsibility for their own health.
11. Provides information to staff concerning health problems in order to encourage responsible decision- making practices.
12. Coordinates Staff and community health activities and staff and community (Health Fairs, Flu Clinics, Immunization Clinics)
13. Acts as a resource in promoting health events.

Administration

1. Assures that Staff health services and activities are appropriately documented, according to professional nurse standards.
2. Adheres to HIPPA/FERPA and confidentiality rules and regulations.
3. Maximizes the quality of work time by reducing the incidence of health-related absenteeism.
4. Completes mandated Continuing Nursing Education (CNE) requirements to maintain R.N. license.
5. Keeps well informed of the latest trends in staff health; this may be accomplished by attending local/state Staff nurse conferences, which contribute to professional growth.
6. Participates in the preparation of the company staff emergency team, CPR instructor certification. This identifies the nurse as a member of the emergency team.
7. Ensures that all members of the emergency team are certified in CPR/First Aid.
8. Be a resource and assist in preparing first aid kits for staff.
9. Supervises and train nurse aide (s) in clinic procedures and responsibilities according to district policy.
10. Upholds and adheres to the safety rules and policies of the ReadyOne/ROICOM safety program.
11. Supports the goals and objectives and follows all policies.
12. Performs any other duties assigned by the appropriate supervisor.
13. Demonstrates the ability to attend work on a regular and routine basis to avoid disruption to operations.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education/Certification:

• Graduate of an accredited professional nursing education program with a minimum of a Bachelor of Science in Nursing and current Texas license.
• AHA BLS CPR/AED certification, Certification in audiometric, vision, spinal, and acanthosis screening or obtain within six (6) months

Experience:

• Minimum of two years as a professional registered nurse in a primary care or manufacturing setting, emergency room or primary care setting.

Mental Demands: Ability to communicate effectively (verbal and written); maintain emotional control under stress.

Physical Demands/Environmental Factors: occasional prolonged standing/walking.
