The Ready To Work (RTW) program opens the doors of hope, transformation, and stability to formerly homeless and incarcerated men – rebuilding, restoring and revitalizing their lives. At Ready To Work we seek to address the core of the social, economic, or addiction issues that brought a participant to the program. With shelter, food, and basic safety issues being met, personal development and individual needs can be assessed, and our students can begin the restoration process.
We are currently hiring a Work Crew Leader. The Work Crew Leader oversees and directs a team of Ready to Work clients performing litter abatement and debris removal services under contracts with local agencies. This individual ensures that daily crew operations are conducted safely, efficiently, and in compliance with project guidelines and agency standards. The Crew Leader is responsible for assigning tasks, transporting crew members, maintaining equipment and vehicle logs, and reporting any incidents or deviations. This role includes direct oversight of program participants, ensuring accountability, professionalism, and job readiness.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education/Experience: Must possess a high school diploma and/or a GED with 6 months of related work experience.
Language Ability: Ability to orally and in writing, clearly communicate in English. A secondary language is preferred
Math Ability: Basic math ability to ensure accurate time card punches, calculate mileage, etc.
Computer Skills: Ability to use online pay system
Driving: Must possess current driver’s license in the State of California and have current vehicle insurance and the ability to maintain said insurance. Applicants should have experience, or demonstrate the ability, to safely tow a trailer and transport collected materials to disposal facilities. comfort and confidence operating a truck and trailer are strongly preferred.
Clearance: Ability to obtain and maintain clearance from California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation.
DUTIES:
Crew Supervision
- Lead, train, and supervise a team of 4–8 crew members assigned to public works and litter abatement projects.
- Serve as the primary point of contact between Ready to Work and site representatives from the City of Stockton, CalTrans, and any other agency contracted for similar services.
- Assign daily tasks and monitor productivity, ensuring safe and efficient cleanup of designated areas.
- Model and enforce professional behavior, time management, and teamwork among crew members.
Training and Workforce Development
- Provide hands-on training to new crew members on proper use of tools and equipment, personal protective gear (PPE), and job site safety protocols.
- Instruct participants on task expectations, route assignments, time management, and appropriate professional conduct.
- Reinforce core soft skills such as communication, punctuality, teamwork, and personal responsibility throughout the workday.
- Serve as a mentor and role model for participants, offering guidance on job readiness, workplace expectations, and the transition into unsubsidized employment.
- Coordinate with Program Managers and Case Managers to identify crew members who are ready for advancement or need additional support.
- Assist with documenting individual performance observations that may support participants’ employment goals or case management needs.
Logistics & Site Management
- Safely transport crew members to and from designated worksites using company vehicles.
- Review daily assignments and confirm project scope and expectations before beginning each shift.
- Conduct pre-shift safety briefings and tool checks to ensure readiness and hazard awareness.
- Complete assigned routes, areas, or zones in accordance with contract specifications and quality standards.
- Safely operate organization vehicles while towing a trailer to collect, transport, and dispose of trash, debris, equipment, and other materials as required for work crew operations.
Documentation & Reporting
- Maintain daily work logs, incident reports, and attendance records for all crew activities.
- Track mileage, fuel use, equipment inventory, and vehicle conditions.
- Submit reports to supervisors summarizing completed work, challenges encountered, and participant performance.
- Notify supervisors of any injuries, equipment malfunctions, behavioral incidents, or delays immediately.
Client Supervision & Mentorship
- Monitor behavior and performance of clients assigned to the work crew, reinforcing accountability, attendance, and productivity.
- Provide coaching and feedback to crew members to help build workplace skills and address performance issues constructively.
- Ensure that participants follow all program rules, safety protocols, and dress code standards while in the field.
- Collaborate with case managers or program staff if client behavior or performance raises concern.
Health, Safety & Compliance
- Enforce all safety rules and ensure use of appropriate PPE (Personal Protective Equipment).
- Respond quickly and appropriately to any on-site emergencies, accidents, or safety hazards.
- Ensure worksite cleanliness and compliance with Cal/OSHA and agency safety regulations.
- Adhere to all vehicle operation and maintenance protocols per Ready to Work and agency policy.

WORK ENVIRONMENT: Work environment is generally in a vehicle, in the outdoors and occasionally an office. Conditions can be loud and chaotic.
Pay: $21.00 - $24.00 per hour
