What are the responsibilities and job description for the ASL (American Sign Language) Specialist position at READS Collaborative?
Full time ASL Specialist for the READS DHH Program located in the town of Norton and within Norton Public Schools with an additional program within the Bristol-Plymouth Technical High School. The core job responsibilities will include, but not limited to:
- Evaluate students' ASL skills and determine the level of intervention needed.
- Consultation to DHH Staff, host building educators, and parents/guardians as needed
- Providing direct ASL instruction (individual, small or large group) to READS DHH students based on the presented caseload .
- Provide written input to IEPs (goals, progress notes, etc.) as well as updates at Team meetings when needed.
- Provide ASL training, as needed, for staff in the areas of ASL instruction and evaluation.
- Provide consultation and/or ASL training to students' families as needed.
- Provide support to READS DHH Early Intervention initiatives as needed
- Occasional home/ district visits may be necessary to support students' families and support the referral and eligibility process.
- Maintain accurate and confidential student records
- Other responsibilities as requested by the DHH Program Director or the READS Collaborative Executive Director
Communication Skills:
- Excellent communication skills required in both ASL and written English
- Superior ASL proficiency rating on the SLPI or other comparable exam
- Proficient English skills (reading / writing)
Certification/Licensure: ASLTA certification or MA DESE Educator License as Foreign Language (ASL), Teacher of the Deaf (ASL/TC), related field, or eligible for licensure.
Salary : $61,950 - $103,740
