    Position Title: Dean of Students
    Classification: RSAA
    Reports To: Principal
    Supervises: N/A
    Position Goal: To increase student achievement by assisting teachers and administrators with student management by fostering constructive student behavior.

    Qualifications:
    Bachelor’s Degree in Education or related field and Pennsylvania administrative certification required; Master’s Degree and teaching experience at the secondary level preferred.
    • Cultural sensitivity and competence and a commitment to equity in all aspects of the educational process is a must.
    • Experience working in urban environments and those which serve a large number of ELL students is strongly preferred.
    • Strong verbal, written, and overall communication skills.
    • Proven planning, organizational, and project management skills.
    • Experience and expertise in office technologies, such as Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, and the ability to learn new technology quickly.
    • Proven track record of integrity, good moral character, flexibility, adaptability, good judgment, initiative, dependability, effective time management, and even-temperedness.
    • Strong interpersonal skills evidencing the ability to effectively interact and work with a wide range of constituents, including, but not limited to, students, staff, administrators, parents, and the community, evidencing high quality customer service, tact, patience, and courtesy under often stressful circumstances.
    • Ability to work independently, utilize good judgment, interpret regulations and procedures, and problem solve issues involving several concrete variables in standardized situations through gathering, assembling, analyzing, and evaluating facts and other evidence.
    • Ability to maintain confidentiality and proven ability to utilize discretion regarding matters involving students and families.

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: The essential functions of this position include, but are not limited to, the following fundamental duties:

    1. Coordinate a schoolwide behavior management system that teaches students responsible thinking, cooperation, mutual respect, and shared decision making.
    2. Establish a professional rapport with students, parents, and staff based on mutual respect and cultural responsiveness.
    3. Assist the administrative team in the development and administration of disciplinary procedures in accordance with District policy and state law; receive referrals and confer with students, parents, teachers, community agencies, and law enforcement relative to student disciplinary matters; respond to and resolve parent, student, and staff concerns and complaints relative to student behavior; prepare for and offer testimony in disciplinary proceedings, and maintain records of disciplinary action taken to ensure that the discipline policy is administered in a fair and just manner and that an optimum learning environment is maintained.
    4. Collaborate with faculty in the enforcement and implementation of the rules and other regulations of the student code of conduct to effect positive student behavior in the school.
    5. Assist in the development of and oversee the implementation, distribution, and orientation of the student handbook and code of conduct to ensure that students and parents/guardians are aware of District and school policies and procedures.
    6. Provide documentation and suggestions to the building principal regarding serious disciplinary infractions, including, but not limited to, assignment to alternative placements, suspension, and expulsion.
    7. Manage, interpret, and utilize data, including behavioral data, to address students’ individual, academic, and emotional needs in collaboration with administration and faculty.
    8. Conduct research on student discipline and welfare with parents, faculty, counselors, support service personnel, students, and other school districts in order to make recommendations for revising discipline policy and procedures.
    9. Assist in the supervision of the arrival and departure of students in order to minimize confusion and to ensure student safety.
    10. Provide administrative oversight to ensure the orderly behavior of students participating in the school breakfast program or other before-school activities.
    11. Assist in compiling data and preparing reports for various state, federal, and foundation reports and grants.
    12. Actively participate in and successfully complete required trainings, in-service programs, workshops, and meetings.
    13. Adhere to all federal, state, and local laws, as well as District policies, procedures, and contractual obligations in areas of responsibility.
    14. Ability to be in regular and consistent attendance throughout the work year.
    15. Perform other related duties, as assigned, for the purpose of promoting student achievement

    TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
    Full-time (10-month) exempt position. Salary and benefits consistent with the District’s approved Compensation and Benefits Plan.

    Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board’s policy on evaluation of personnel.
