Position Title: Food Service Logistic Supervisor

Classification: RSSSA

Position Range: Range 7

Reports To: Director of Food Service

Position Goal: To assist the Food Service Department in the management and supervision of the receiving, delivery and inventory of food in support of the educational system of the district.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Other duties may be assigned. The essential functions of this position include, but are not limited to the following fundamental duties.

  • Follows the Reading School District, City of Reading Board of Health, and USDA Nutritional Guidelines, rules and regulations pertaining to efficient and sanitary food receiving/delivery and storage.
  • Monitor the receiving/delivery and storage of food to ensure consistent quality and compliance with applicable regulations.
  • Record daily absentees and arrange for substitute drivers and stock clerks.
  • Coordinate delivery schedules and routes and update as needed.
  • Assist with preparation and submission of orders including milk, bread, produce, food and supplies.
  • Assist in rectifying supply and delivery problems.
  • Assist Director and Culinary Specialist in coordination of supply orders and deliveries for special functions.
  • Responsible for scheduling delivery of bagged lunch requests.
  • Assess weekly breakfast and lunch number forecasts for delivery of supplies to assigned schools.
  • Coordinate and oversee the transportation and warehouse operations to ensure students receive the proper nutritional requirements daily.
  • Receive money transported through the drivers from within the food service department and deliver to Supervisors for weekly deposit.
  • Assist Food Services Director in dealings with the Department of Education and Department of Agriculture regarding facility inspections and audits.
  • Responsible for overseeing the daily completion of driver/ stock clerks daily checklists.
  • Responsible for monitoring at all schools for quality and food safety compliance.
  • Responsible for trouble shooting problems with transportation and deliveries.
  • Participate in monthly Unit Leader meetings on various food service related topics.
  • Supervision of all food service staff, stock clerks and drivers and provide training and implement disciplinary procedures.

EDUCATION And/or EXPERIENCE

High School Diploma or General Education (GED); minimum two years training in commercial food service and/or logistic systems; minimum one year supervisory experience; general knowledge of requirements of ServSafe Food Safety Program.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

ServSafe Certification

Valid driver's license with a good driving record.

Language Skills

  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as food safety rules, union contracts, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to read, analyze and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, and governmental regulations.
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence and procedure manuals.

Mathematical Skills

  • Ability to apply basic arithmetic calculations using units of American money, weight measurements, volume and distance.
  • Ability to apply concepts such as fractions and percentages.
  • Ability to apply financial concepts.

REASONING ABILITY

  • Ability to apply simple understanding to carry out detailed but basic written and/or oral instruction.
  • Ability to deal with problems involving multiple variables in standardized situations.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or scheduled form.

OTHER SKILLS And ABILITIES

  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks and make work related decisions.
  • Ability to use a personal computer with a database.

The employee continuously uses hand strength to grasp. The employee may frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. The employee is required to be able to hear conversations and audible signals in quiet and noisy environments.

While performing the duties of this position, the employee occasionally works in temperatures above 90° and occasionally will walk on slippery surfaces. The employee must be able to meet deadlines with severe time constraints and interact with the public and other workers. The employee occasionally has direct responsibility for the safety and well-being of others.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: 12-month, non-exempt position

EVALUATION The employee will be formally evaluated annually by the Director of Food Service, in accordance with the provisions of the RSSSA agreement and Board Policy.
