Position Title: Electrician

Reports To: Director of Facilities and/or their designee
Hours: Variable Hours
Position Goal: Performs journeyman level installation, service and repair to various systems including, but not limited to, electrical distribution, emergency lighting, telephone, street/parking lot lighting, HVAC, security, fire alarms and intercoms.
Position Rate: $27.69 per hour

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, climb, stoop, kneel, crawl, balance; use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools or controls; and talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to reach with hands and arms, perform work overhead and work from ladders. Work involves exposure to unpleasant elements, extreme temperatures, dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, loud noises, chemicals, etc. Work environment involves exposure to potentially dangerous materials and situations that require following extensive safety precautions, and may include the use of protective gear. The employee must frequently move and/or lift up to 50 pounds such as materials and equipment. Specific vision capabilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus. The essential functions of this position include, but are not limited to the following fundamental duties:
- Installs, alters, maintains and repairs electrical wiring and equipment, both high and low voltage.
- Inspects electrical systems, equipment, and components to identify hazards, defects, and the need for adjustment or repair, and to insure compliance with codes.
- Diagnoses malfunctioning systems, apparatus, and components using test equipment and hand tools to locate the cause of a breakdown and correct the problem.
- Installs ground leads and connects power cables to equipment, such as motors.
- Installs conduit and pull wires/cables.
- Provides preliminary sketches and cost estimates for materials and services.
- Tests electrical systems and continuity of circuits in wiring, equipment and fixtures using testing devices.
- Plans layout and installation of electrical wiring, equipment and fixtures based on job specifications and codes.
- Purchases parts and equipment, recommends annual supply requirements.
- Reads and interprets blueprints and schematic wiring diagrams.
