Machinist – 2nd Shift

Reading Bakery Systems is seeking a 2nd Shift Machinist to join our Manufacturing team at our Robesonia, PA location. This position interprets engineering drawings and operates manual and CNC metal cutting equipment to manufacture high-precision component parts for industrial bakery systems.

The Machinist works with Engineering and Manufacturing leadership to ensure parts are produced accurately, meet quality standards, and support efficient assembly operations.

What You’ll Do

  • Interpret engineering drawings, assembly drawings, and bills of materials to determine machining and assembly requirements.

  • Set up and operate saws, drill presses, lathes, surface grinders, key seaters, milling machines, CNC machining centers, and CNC lathes.

  • Select proper cutting tools, feeds, speeds, and cutting fluids to maintain required dimensions, tolerances, and surface finishes.

  • Edit or write simple CNC programs using G-code and M-code.

  • Inspect parts during machining using precision measuring tools such as micrometers, calipers, and gauges.

  • Align, fit, deburr, polish, attach, tighten, and adjust machined parts and assemblies.

  • Make mechanical adjustments to maintain proper clearances, operating parameters, and accuracy.

  • Support assembly of industrial bakery machinery, including fitting components, attaching parts, basic welding tasks, and verifying proper part movement.

  • Organize component parts and subassemblies to support production flow.

  • Complete required production and quality control records.

  • Clean equipment and maintain a safe, organized work area.

  • Follow company safety policies, occupational health programs, and operating procedures.

  • Provide feedback to coworkers, supervisors, and management to support efficient manufacturing operations.

  • When needed, assist with Machinist Coordinator duties and provide technical guidance to other machinists.

Working Conditions

This role is performed in a manufacturing environment and requires standing, walking, reaching, handling tools and materials, and performing close visual work. The employee may occasionally stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, or lift up to 50 pounds.

The work environment may include exposure to moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles, vibration, wet or humid conditions, and high noise levels requiring hearing protection. Appropriate personal protective equipment is required.

Qualifications:

What We’re Looking For

  • High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent work experience.

  • Vocational or technical training in machining, machine tool technology, or a related field preferred.

  • Experience operating manual and CNC machining equipment.

  • Ability to read engineering drawings, assembly drawings, bills of materials, and procedure manuals.

  • Knowledge of machining processes, cutting tools, feeds and speeds, tolerances, and surface finish requirements.

  • Ability to edit or write simple CNC programs using G-code and M-code.

  • Experience using precision measuring instruments.

  • Strong mechanical aptitude and understanding of how machined components function within industrial equipment.

  • Basic math skills, including geometry and trigonometry.

  • Ability to use hand tools, power tools, and machine-assisted equipment safely.

  • Strong attention to detail, quality, safety, and communication.

Preferred Skills or Experience

  • Experience machining close-tolerance component parts for industrial machinery.

  • Experience with CNC machining centers and CNC lathes.

  • Experience with manual lathes, mills, grinders, saws, and drill presses.

  • Basic welding knowledge or experience.

  • Forklift certification preferred.
