Industrial Automation & Controls Engineer
Location: Greater Reading Area, PA

Travel: Approximately 25–30% domestic and international travel
Position SummaryReading Bakery Systems (RBS) is seeking an Industrial Automation & Controls Engineer to design, program, troubleshoot, and commission PLC-based control systems for custom industrial bakery and food processing equipment. This is a hands-on engineering role with involvement from design through startup and direct customer interaction.
Key Responsibilities- Design, program, troubleshoot, and commission PLC and HMI control systems for custom industrial bakery and food processing equipment
- Develop and support automation systems using Allen-Bradley / Rockwell Automation platforms; Siemens experience preferred
- Perform in-house system simulation, testing, debugging, and Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT), along with customer site startup and commissioning activities
- Develop electrical schematics, controls documentation, bills of material (BOMs), and technical specifications
- Select, integrate, and troubleshoot automation components including VFDs, servo systems, motors, sensors, safety devices, and industrial networks
- Provide remote and on-site technical support while working closely with engineering, manufacturing, service, vendors, and customers throughout project execution
- Support machine upgrades, process improvements, system optimization, and continuous improvement initiatives
- Manage assigned projects, schedules, technical deliverables, and customer support activities
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related discipline; Associate degree or equivalent experience considered
- 3 years of experience in industrial automation or controls engineering
- Hands-on PLC programming and HMI development experience
- Experience with industrial controls, VFDs, servo systems, sensors, and automation hardware
- Familiarity with AutoCAD or similar CAD software preferred
- Strong troubleshooting, communication, and problem-solving skills
- Siemens PLC and HMI experience
- Experience with food processing, manufacturing, or OEM equipment
- Familiarity with industrial safety systems and motion control applications
- Approximately 25–30% domestic and international travel to customer sites
- Work in manufacturing and food production facilities, supporting industrial bakery equipment and systems
- Required use of personal protective equipment (PPE) in manufacturing and customer production environments
