Description:

The Director of Supply chain is responsible for the strategic leadership and daily oversight of Purchasing, Shipping, and Material Handling operations at Reader Precision Solutions. This position ensures the efficient flow of materials throughout the organization from supplier procurement and inbound receiving to inventory management, production support, and client shipments.

The Director of Supply Chain is an engaged, visible leader who works closely with team members and department leaders to drive accountability, develop talent, and foster a culture of continuous improvement. This role partners with Production, Scheduling, Quality, Engineering, Finance, and Client Relations to maintain material availability, optimize inventory levels, strengthen supplier performance, and support on-time delivery and exceptional client service.

Requirements:

Essential Duties & Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

Supply Chain & Logistics Leadership

  • Lead and oversee Purchasing, Shipping, and Material Handling functions.
  • Develop and implement strategies to improve material flow, inventory control, freight management, and overall supply chain performance.
  • Establish and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) related to inventory accuracy, on-time delivery, supplier performance, freight costs, inventory turns and operational efficiency.
  • Identify and implement continuous improvement opportunities that reduce costs and improve service levels.
  • Participate in operational planning activities to ensure logistics functions align with production schedules and client commitments.
  • Evaluate supply chain risks and develop contingency plans to minimize disruptions to operations.

Purchasing & Vendor Management

  • Oversee procurement of raw materials, tooling, production supplies, MRO inventory, and facility-related purchases.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with suppliers, and outside service vendors.
  • Negotiate pricing, contracts, and service agreements to achieve cost savings and operational advantages.
  • Monitor supplier performance and proactively address quality, delivery, or service concerns.
  • Collaborate with cross-departmental teams to support new part launches, supplier qualification activities, and process improvements.
  • Identify strategic sourcing opportunities and supplier development initiatives that improve quality, service, and cost performance.

Shipping, Receiving & Material Handling

  • Ensure timely and accurate receipt, storage, movement, and shipment of materials and finished goods.
  • Oversee shipping and material handling processes to support production requirements and inventory accuracy.
  • Manage carrier relationships and transportation activities to ensure efficient and cost-effective delivery performance.
  • Ensure compliance with shipping requirements, client specifications, and company procedures.
  • Drive improvements in shipping & receiving department organization, material flow, and logistics processes.
  • Promote safe material handling practices and compliance with all safety requirements.

Production Support

  • Collaborate with production and scheduling teams to ensure materials are available to meet manufacturing demands.
  • Monitor inventory levels and supply chain activity to prevent material shortages and production delays.
  • Coordinate expedited shipments and critical material movement as necessary to support client commitments.

Team Leadership & Development

  • Provide leadership, coaching, mentoring and development for Purchasing, Shipping, and Material Handling personnel.
  • Establish clear expectations, accountability, and performance standards across all areas of responsibility.
  • Promote a culture of teamwork, safety, communication, and continuous improvement.
  • Support employee development, succession planning, cross-training and career growth opportunities.
  • Conduct performance evaluations, provide ongoing feedback, and address performance concerns as necessary.
  • Lead by example through active engagement, visibility, and participation within daily operations.

Salary : $101,147 - $180,643
