About This Job:
As a Direct Support Professional, you play a pivotal role in enriching the lives of individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. You provide direct support and patient care, assisting with activities of daily living and implementing behavior management strategies. Your work fosters independence, promotes well-being, and ensures a safe and supportive environment for those we serve.
Job Duties and Responsibilities:
- Provides direct support and assistance to individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) in their daily routines and activities.
- Assists with activities of daily living (ADL), including personal hygiene, dressing, meal preparation, and medication reminders.
- Implements behavior management plans and strategies to support positive behavior and ensure safety.
- Delivers compassionate patient care, attending to the physical, emotional, and social needs of individuals.
- Fosters a supportive and inclusive environment that promotes independence and personal growth.
- Maintains accurate and timely documentation of services provided and individual progress.
- Communicates effectively with individuals, families, and other members of the support team.
- Participates in training and development activities to enhance skills and knowledge.
- Adheres to all agency policies, procedures, and safety guidelines.
Required Qualifications:
Education:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
Experience:
- Experience in direct support, patient care, or a related field preferred.
- Experience working with individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) is a plus.
Knowledge/Skills:
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Ability to implement behavior management techniques effectively.
- Knowledge of activities of daily living (ADL) and personal care practices.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Demonstrates empathy, patience, and a genuine desire to help others.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Certification in CPR and First Aid.
- Additional training or certification in direct support or related field.
Physical Requirements/Work Conditions:
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, and lift for extended periods.
- Ability to assist individuals with mobility and physical tasks.
- Must be able to work in a variety of settings, including residential homes and community locations.
- Must be able to meet the physical demands of the job.
