Responsibilities
- Provide companionship to patients, engaging them in conversation, activities, or hobbies to promote mental stimulation and emotional well-being.
- Assist with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs), including dressing, grooming and mobility support.
- Monitor patients’ health by observing vital signs such as blood pressure, pulse, temperature, and respiration; report any concerns promptly.
- Support medication administration following proper protocols and HIPAA regulations to ensure patient safety and confidentiality.
- Help with meal preparation and feeding as needed, ensuring dietary restrictions are followed accurately.
- Maintain a clean and safe environment by performing light cleaning duties and adhering to infection control standards.
- Operate equipment such as Hoyer lifts or other mobility aids to assist with patient transfers safely.
- Follow individualized care plans developed by healthcare professionals or social workers to meet each patient’s unique needs.
- Document observations, care provided, and any incidents thoroughly in compliance with healthcare regulations.
- Collaborate with administration and other caregivers to ensure comprehensive patient support.
- Support patients during outings or community activities to promote social engagement and independence when appropriate.
Experience
Candidates should demonstrate a strong commitment to compassionate care giving with experience or familiarity in healthcare environments such as group homes, nursing homes, assisted living facilities, or home health settings. Prior experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities, Alzheimer’s disease, dementia, autism spectrum disorder, or over all developmental disabilities, other memory care needs is highly valued. Certification in CPR and first aid is required; experience with medication administration and vital signs monitoring is a plus. Candidates should be comfortable performing heavy lifting when necessary and using assistive devices like Hoyer lifts. A level 2 background screening is REQUIRED. History in long-term care or hospice care is advantageous. Excellent communication skills, patience, attention to detail, and adherence to HIPAA standards are essential for success in this role.
