Job SummaryThe Janitor will play a critical role in ensuring cleanliness, safety, and hygiene across multiple facilities. This position requires flexibility, responsiveness to urgent situations, and a commitment to environmental sustainability. The successful candidate will follow structured cleaning schedules while effectively addressing emergency and site-specific needs.

Duties

Key ResponsibilitiesDaily Cleaning and Maintenance:

• Clean and sanitize restrooms, classrooms, and office areas.
• Sweep, mop, vacuum, and polish floors, including stairwells and landings.
• Clean interior and exterior entry door windows and glass surfaces.
• Disinfect high-touch surfaces such as desks, chairs, counters, and telephones.
• Remove trash and recyclables, replace liners, and dispose of waste properly.

Spot Cleaning and Specialized Tasks:

• Remove stains, soil, and debris from walls, furniture, and door surfaces.
• Respond promptly to spills, body fluids, or other emergencies, ensuring OSHA standards are met.
• Clean classroom kitchen areas, including floors, appliances, and walls.
• Disinfect children’s tables and chairs thoroughly.

Scheduled and Periodic Tasks:

• Perform weekly low dusting and monthly glass cleaning to maintain pristine appearances.
• Conduct semi-annual high dusting and Venetian blind cleaning.
• Maintain grounds by sweeping sidewalks, curbs, and playgrounds.
• Clear snow and ice during inclement weather.

Emergency Response and Special Events:

• Respond to unforeseen incidents like spills, plumbing issues, and overflows within 15 minutes.
• Support special events with additional cleaning services, ensuring regular schedules remain unaffected.

Sustainability Initiatives:

• Use EPA-certified cleaning products to support a safe and environmentally friendly facility.
• Implement recycling and waste reduction practices in line with DoDEA’s sustainability goals.

Requirements

Qualifications

• Pass background check/clearance
• Previous janitorial or custodial experience is preferred but not required.
• Ability to operate cleaning equipment, including HEPA-filtered vacuums and floor polishers.
• Strong attention to detail and a proactive attitude.
• Physical stamina to lift up to 25 pounds and perform repetitive tasks.
• Flexibility to adapt to a changing schedule, including early mornings and after-hours tasks.

• Familiarity with OSHA cleaning standards is a plus.
