Warehouse Associate – Inventory Control
Position Summary
The Inventory-Focused Warehouse Associate supports daily warehouse operations with a primary emphasis on inventory accuracy, tracking, and control for residential and commercial moving and storage services. This role is responsible for maintaining accurate inventory records, overseeing the movement of goods within the warehouse, and ensuring all materials and customer items are properly documented, labeled, and stored.
This position plays a critical role in preventing loss, ensuring billing accuracy, and maintaining operational efficiency through strict adherence to inventory procedures and documentation standards.
Reporting Structure
Reports To: Sr. Vice President, Richmond and Warehouse Managers
Works Closely With: Operations Team, Warehouse Staff, Dispatch, Residential and Commercial Crews
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Inventory Control & Accuracy (Primary Focus)
- Maintain accurate, real-time tracking of all warehouse inventory, including household goods, commercial items, and packing materials.
- Receive, inspect, label, and log all incoming inventory into tracking systems.
- Verify all outgoing inventory (releases, deliveries, transfers) for accuracy against documentation prior to movement.
- Conduct routine cycle counts and full physical inventory audits as scheduled.
- Investigate and resolve inventory discrepancies, reporting findings to warehouse leadership.
- Ensure all items are properly tagged, barcoded (if applicable), and assigned to correct storage locations.
- Maintain detailed records of inventory movement, adjustments, and exceptions.
- Support billing accuracy by ensuring materials and storage items are properly documented and reported.
Warehouse Operations & Storage Management
- Organize and maintain storage areas, vaults, racks, and containers to ensure efficient inventory access and tracking.
- Ensure all storage locations are clearly labeled and aligned with inventory systems.
- Assist with daily warehouse setup to support accurate and timely dispatch.
- Maintain clean, orderly, and audit-ready warehouse conditions at all times.
Materials & Supply Inventory
- Monitor inventory levels of packing materials and warehouse supplies.
- Track issuance and usage of materials (boxes, pads, wrap, tape, specialty items).
- Notify leadership of low stock levels and assist with restocking processes.
- Ensure materials are properly recorded for operational and billing purposes.
Equipment & Inventory Handling
- Safely operate warehouse equipment such as forklifts, pallet jacks, and hand trucks (if certified).
- Move inventory within the warehouse while maintaining accurate tracking and documentation.
- Ensure all equipment used for handling inventory is properly maintained and stored.
Documentation & Systems Tracking
- Accurately complete all inventory-related documentation, logs, and system updates.
- Ensure all inventory transactions are recorded in real time or as required by Company procedures.
- Maintain organized records for audits, reporting, and compliance purposes.
- Follow all job coding, time tracking, and documentation standards.
Safety & Compliance
- Follow all warehouse safety procedures and Company policies.
- Handle all customer goods and materials with care to prevent loss or damage.
- Report damaged, missing, or improperly logged items immediately.
- Maintain compliance with inventory control standards and audit requirements.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications
- Strong attention to detail with a focus on accuracy and accountability.
- Ability to follow structured processes and inventory procedures.
- Basic understanding of inventory tracking, counting, and documentation.
- Reliable attendance and ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience in inventory control, warehouse logistics, or storage operations.
- Experience with warehouse management systems (WMS), inventory tracking tools, or scanning systems.
- Forklift certification or willingness to become certified.
- Experience in household goods or commercial storage environments.
Work Environment & Physical Requirements
- Warehouse-based role with frequent physical activity.
- Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull heavy items (up to 100 lbs. with assistance).
- Requires standing, walking, bending, kneeling, and climbing.
- Exposure to varying warehouse conditions (temperature, dust, noise).
- High attention to detail and accuracy required for inventory control.
