Job Description

What is the Opportunity?

Leads the strategic direction and execution of advanced machine learning research initiatives, driving innovation and the development of cutting edge AI methodologies to address complex business challenges and enhance organizational capabilities. Directs the management of multiple teams in machine learning research, focusing on strategy implementation.

Your responsibilities include:

  • Oversee the design, implementation, and deployment of advanced AI solutions, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and industry standards while managing cross functional collaboration to address complex business needs.
  • Directs the development and execution of innovative machine learning methodologies, fostering thought leadership through the creation of intellectual property, scientific publications, and participation in global conferences.
  • Provides strategic guidance and mentorship to senior managers and researchers, ensuring the effective dissemination of advanced AI tools and methodologies across the organization to enhance operational efficiency and decision making.
  • Collaborates with stakeholders to evaluate and implement scalable AI architectures, driving the integration of new technologies and ensuring the organization remains at the forefront of AI advancements.
  • Manages machine learning research initiatives of significant complexity, applying advanced technical expertise to solve abstract problems, and making independent decisions across business units.
  • Makes independent decisions on program, technical or operational strategy for the department, providing leadership, coaching and mentorship through senior managers and managers. Sets strategic direction for the department or area receiving high level direction from senior leaders.
  • Drives innovation across areas of responsibility identifying opportunities for making operational changes and practices, solving highly complex problems broadly related to machine learning research.
  • Leads cross functional collaboration efforts, fostering strong internal relationships across the organization and external relationships to drive business outcomes.

Ideal candidate

  • Involvement across the research and product development lifecycle, from prototyping to production, and engaging with multiple stakeholders to develop solutions that meet business needs;
  • Proficient in Python, data science tooling, and deep learning frameworks;
  • Publication record in relevant top tier AI/ML conferences a plus;
  • Experience with NLP, LLMs, or financial services domain a plus;
  • Experience developing open-source tools, etc. a plus.

The expected salary range for this particular position is $154,000- 268,000 depending on your experience, skills, and registration status, market conditions and business needs.

You have the potential to earn more through RBC’s discretionary variable compensation program which gives you an opportunity to increase your total compensation, provided the business meets its performance targets and you meet your individual goals.
