The following position is to join our Corporate or Research Center Team (RTRC):

Human Machine Teaming Research Scientist & Engineer

RTRC has a newly created position of Human Machine Teaming Research Scientist & Engineer. In this role, you will join the Autonomous and Collaborative Systems team in the AI discipline at RTRC. The team is engaged in a wide variety of research topics with applications in Robotics, Commercial Aviation, Autonomy and Human machine teaming. We are looking for people who will thrive in a dynamic work environment and enjoy working on hard, cutting edge applied research problems for both RTX and government funded projects. We are seeking exceptional candidates who can fill some or all of the following roles and responsibilities.

Roles & Responsibilities:

Conduct applied research in the areas of human factors, cognitive modeling, knowledge representation, automated planning and reasoning.

Interact with Experiment Design, refine research methodology, construct databases, provide coding and statistical expertise, interpret results to answer study questions, develop statistical plans for research protocols and proposals.

Demonstrate the potential to initiate, lead, and execute funding opportunities in both internal and external R&D.

Keep abreast of the latest developments in the field by continuous learning and enthusiastically champion new ideas and new problem definitions.

Require an ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary team environment focused on innovation and be able to partner with leading, worldwide institutions (university, government agencies, national labs, and professional organizations) to meet organizational objectives.

Demonstrate exceptional communication skills and ability to provide timely, accurate and detailed reports, presentations and technical papers for archival journals.

Basic Qualifications:

MS degree will be required to have at least 2 years research industry experience and/ or performance on a government agency proposal.

Ph.D. degreed candidate can be considered without any formal post-graduate experience.

Experience conducting research and development with human factors.

Experience with planning and knowledge representation tools and methods – PDDL, HTN, Domain dependent heuristic search approaches

Experience with scripting languages, including Python and R, SPSS, and/or using packages used in machine learning applications or advanced data analytics.

Expertise with scientific programming in python, and C .

U.S. Person (U.S. citizen, permanent resident, refugee or asylee) or eligible to obtain necessary export authorizations required.

Preferred Qualifications:

Ph.D. in Computer Science, Electrical or Computer Engineer, or related engineering field with up to two years of post-grad research experience.

Additional skills in programming a plus.

Prior experience with advanced topics like epistemic reasoning, structured equation modelling, theory of mind, Bayesian approaches, causal inference.

Experience in publishing at high impact conferences or journals.

Dynamic problem solver with the ability to craft solutions to everyday challenges with creative new ideas.

Ability to work effectively in fast-paced, team environment.

Ability to work independently and work with limited direction to accomplish project goals.

Self-starter with willingness to take initiative, support strategic priorities, take ownership of assigned projects/initiatives and contribute to results and ability to work with a minimum supervision.

Exceptional interpersonal skills and solid track record of teamwork, adaptability, innovation and initiative.

Outstanding formal and informal presentation skills.

U.S. Person (U.S. citizen, permanent resident, refugee or asylee) or eligible to obtain necessary export authorizations required.

Location: East Hartford, Connecticut

Candidates must be able to relocate to CT or within driving distance to the

East Hartford, CT site.

Education / Certifications:

Master's Degree required

Ph.D. in Cognitive Science, Human Factors, Computer Science, Electrical or Computer Engineering or related quantitative discipline (Statistics, Applied Math) preferred.

Typically requires:

A University Degree or equivalent experience and minimum 5 years prior relevant experience, or An Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 3 years' experience.

Engineering/Other Technical Positions:

Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and a minimum of 5 years of prior relevant experience unless prohibited by local laws/regulations.

Requires advanced knowledge of work area typically obtained through advanced education combined with experience. May have practical knowledge of project

management. Practical to substantial knowledge of RTX projects, programs or systems with the ability to make enhancements and leverage in daily work.

Typically requires:

A University Degree or equivalent experience and minimum 5 years prior relevant experience, or An Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 3 years experience

Engineering/Other Technical Positions:

Typically requires a degree in Science,Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and a minimum of 5 years of prior relevant experience unless prohibited by local laws/regulations.
