Responsibilities
- Perform thorough eye examinations using advanced diagnostic equipment to assess visual acuity and ocular health.
- Diagnose and manage common eye conditions such as glaucoma, cataracts, and macular degeneration.
- Prescribe corrective lenses, contact lenses, and other vision aids tailored to each patient’s needs.
- Educate patients on eye health, preventive care, and treatment options, fostering informed decision-making.
- Collaborate with ophthalmologists and other healthcare professionals on complex cases involving ophthalmology or systemic conditions affecting the eyes.
- Stay current with advancements in optometry, ophthalmology, medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, and medical coding to provide the highest standard of care.
Skills
- Strong knowledge of ophthalmology principles and clinical procedures related to eye care.
- Proven experience working in a medical office environment with proficiency in EMR systems such as Epic or similar platforms.
- Familiarity with HIPAA regulations and best practices for maintaining patient confidentiality.
- Excellent understanding of medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, and medical records management.
- Experience with optical products and services, including fitting and adjusting corrective lenses.
- Ability to interpret medical coding for billing purposes accurately.
- Clinic experience in a fast-paced healthcare setting with strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
