Raybourn Group International (RGI) is seeking a full-time director of membership to join our Indianapolis office.

Work Schedule:
Regular work hours are Monday through Friday 8 a.m. – 5 p.m., with flexibility as needed. The position allows a hybrid schedule with up to two remote workdays per week.
Travel Requirements:
This position requires travel by air 1-2 times per year (approximately 2 weeks of travel). While at the event, must be able to work extended hours.

Responsibilities:
The Director of Membership is a key member of the association management team responsible for strengthening member engagement, retention, recruitment, and overall member value for multiple association clients. In addition to membership development efforts, the Director will also lead grassroots advocacy efforts and coordinate state-based lobbying efforts.
Membership Strategy, Recruitment & Retention
- Develop and implement membership recruitment, retention, engagement, and renewal strategies for assigned association clients.
- Monitor membership trends, retention rates, recruitment results, engagement, and other key performance indicators to identify opportunities for growth and improvement.
- Develop strategies to strengthen the member experience throughout the membership lifecycle, from recruitment and onboarding through engagement, renewal, and volunteer involvement.
- Identify opportunities to increase awareness and utilization of member benefits, programs, and resources.
- Develop targeted outreach strategies for prospective, new, at-risk, and lapsed members.
- Coordinate membership campaigns, renewal communications, onboarding activities, surveys, and engagement initiatives.
- Work with volunteer leaders and committees to identify evolving member needs and recommend programs, services, or resources that increase member value.
- Build relationships with members and prospective members and serve as a knowledgeable, responsive resource regarding association programs and opportunities.
- Maintain accurate membership data and use association management systems, reports, and other tools to support decision-making.
- Prepare membership reports, dashboards, and recommendations for staff and volunteer leadership.
Legislative & Advocacy Leadership
- Direct the day-to-day implementation of the state association’s legislative and advocacy priorities in collaboration with volunteer leaders, the association’s contract lobbyist, and other partners.
- Work with the lobbyist and association leadership to monitor legislative and regulatory developments affecting members and determine appropriate association responses.
- Coordinate the development and distribution of legislative updates, member alerts, calls to action, advocacy resources, and other communications.
- Coordinate member grassroots advocacy efforts, including outreach to legislators and opportunities for members to participate in the legislative process.
- Help ensure advocacy activities remain aligned with board-approved priorities and the association’s overall strategic direction.
- Coordinate advocacy-related meetings, events, and member engagement activities as needed.
- Manage PAC including fundraising and required reporting.
Volunteer & Association Leadership
- Serve as a staff partner to assigned committees, task forces, and volunteer leaders.
- Build productive relationships with board members, committee members, members, industry partners, and other stakeholders.
- Prepare agendas, reports, recommendations, and other materials for volunteer leadership.
- Help volunteer leaders move from ideas to action by establishing priorities, responsibilities, timelines, and next steps.
- Identify opportunities to strengthen volunteer engagement and develop future association leaders.
- Provide informed recommendations while recognizing the appropriate roles of staff and volunteer governance.
AMC & Client Management
- Successfully manage responsibilities across multiple association clients with different industries, priorities, cultures, and expectations.
- Build strong relationships with client leaders while maintaining an understanding of the AMC’s role as a professional service partner.
- Balance strategic responsibilities with hands-on execution appropriate to the size and resources of each association.
- Manage multiple projects, deadlines, meetings, and competing priorities while maintaining responsiveness and quality.
- Track time and manage work within established client allocations and budgets.
- Collaborate with colleagues across membership, communications, meetings, finance, technology, and association management functions.
- Identify opportunities to improve processes, increase efficiency, and strengthen the services provided to clients.
- Contribute to AMC-wide initiatives and support other client assignments as organizational needs evolve.
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS:
Applicant should demonstrate the ability to coordinate all phases of the association’s membership strategy and be able to work closely with the Executive Director and other staff members to execute the work of the association, and have:
- Education level of a bachelor’s degree or equivalent.
- 5 years of experience in membership association management.
- Proven ability to develop and execute membership strategies.
- Experience in volunteer management.
- Ability to interact comfortably and professionally with members and potential members virtually and in-person.
- Familiarity with association management software (AMS) with the ability to quickly learn new systems and technology.
- Proficient in most Microsoft Office applications (specifically Word, Excel, PowerPoint), and AMS/CMS platforms.
- Strong interpersonal, written and oral communication skills.
- Strong attention to detail while keeping the overall goals of a project in mind.
- Proven ability to work as part of a team.
- Exercise discretion and independent judgment.
