Job Summary:
The Ray County Public Library is accepting applications for a part-time library page. We seek a motivated individual who is detail-oriented and thrives in an ever-changing environment. The library page is an entry-level position that performs a variety of clerical and support tasks with the primary duties including shelving and retrieval of library materials.
Qualifications and Skills:
- Aptitude for learning technology.
- Ability to work and learn in an environment where there are shifting priorities, developing technologies, frequent interruptions, and interactions with the public.
- Demonstrated skill in oral and written communication.
- Willingness to learn about books, authors, and book classification.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office productivity, email, and other software applications.
- Must be service-oriented.
- Ability to apply logic and attention to detail.
- Ability to understand and follow written and oral instructions
Education:
- Any combination of education and experience that would provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying.
- All candidates must be at least 14 years of age
Essential Job Functions:
- Shelves library materials correctly and efficiently, according to numbering sequences (i.e. Dewey Decimal System).
- Straightens and shifts items on library shelves as assigned.
- Reads shelves for accurate material placement.
- Assists with completing the opening, midday, and/or closing procedures.
- Performs regular cleaning duties according to instructions.
- Empties book returns.
- Utilizes library systems to process items and access daily lists.
- Locates, retrieves, and prepares items from shelves for outgoing delivery and patron requests.
- Assists with the processing, labeling, and maintenance of materials.
- Helps answer library user questions.
- Assists with the prep work for outreach events and programs.
- May be trained to serve as back-up for customer service assistance.
- Must be able to perform all other duties as assigned.
Supervision Received: Works under the supervision of the Library Director.
Scheduling:
- The schedule for this position includes daytime, evening, and weekend hours.
- All scheduling is based on the needs of the library
Essential Physical Abilities to be accomplished with or without reasonable accommodation are:
CLARITY OF SPEECH and hearing which permits the employee to communicate effectively with supervisor and other employees.
VISION which permits the employee to produce and review a wide variety of library materials, written correspondence, reports and related materials in both electronic and hard copy form. Vision abilities include, but are not just limited to): close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus. Hand-eye coordination necessary to operate computers and various office equipment.
MANUAL DEXTERITY which permits the employee to operate a keyboard and any other assigned equipment to process library materials. Includes, but is not limited to, use of hands to finger, grasp, handle, feel or operate objects, tools, or controls.
PERSONAL MOBILITY which permits the employee to monitor, supervise, and perform assigned library operations, and to attend to Library district, community, and public meetings at various locations.
LIFT UP TO 40 pounds, push and pull carts weighing up to 200 pounds, bend, stoop, kneel, crouch and reach shelving form floor to level to 6 feet high, and stand or walk for at least 2 hours at a time.
TOLERANCE for dust and mold which permits the employee to work with books and other library materials as well as work in an older facility.
