Position Summary
The Staff Accountant is responsible for supporting accurate financial reporting, day-to-day accounting operations, and compliance within a healthcare environment. This role maintains general ledger activity, prepares reconciliations and journal entries, assists with month-end close, and supports audits, budgeting, and regulatory reporting. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, analytical, and comfortable working with confidential financial, patient-related, and employee information.
Key Responsibilities
Prepare, post, and review journal entries with appropriate supporting documentation.
Maintain general ledger accounts and reconcile bank accounts and balance sheet accounts, including cash, payroll, accounts payable, and accounts receivable activity.
Assist with monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes, including account analysis and variance explanations.
Prepare financial statements, schedules, management reports, and other accounting reports as assigned.
Support budgeting, forecasting, expense analysis, and cost reporting activities for departments and/or service lines.
Review invoices, vendor statements, deposits, reimbursements, and other transactions for accuracy, timeliness, and proper coding.
Assist with internal and external audits by preparing schedules, documentation, and responses to information requests.
Help ensure compliance with GAAP, internal controls, organizational policies, and healthcare-related requirements.
Maintain accurate and organized financial records in accordance with retention, confidentiality, and privacy standards.
Collaborate with finance, operations, department managers, billing teams, and other stakeholders to resolve discrepancies and improve workflows.
Perform other accounting and administrative duties as assigned.
Requirements
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field preferred; equivalent education and relevant experience may be considered.
Three to five years of accounting, bookkeeping, or finance experience; healthcare experience preferred.
Working knowledge of GAAP and standard accounting practices.
Experience with accounting software, financial systems, and Microsoft Excel.
Ability to handle confidential information with professionalism and discretion, including information governed by healthcare privacy expectations.
