Company Description:
Raven Resonance is a wearable computing company building AR glasses for all-day wear, plus a custom operating system that enables intuitive interactions with apps and physical objects. Raven has functional prototypes of and pre-orders for its first product, designed for microinteractions and contextual information.
Raven is founded by Thomas Suarez, a Thiel Fellow, engineer, TED speaker and second-time founder who has consistently worn Google Glass and other customized AR/VR devices since 2013. Thomas has also done wearable computing research under Dr. Thad Starner, a pioneer in this space since the 1990s, at Georgia Tech’s Contextual Computing Group.
Raven’s team and advisors have years to decades of experience in augmented and virtual reality, and have contributed to projects at the MIT Media Lab, Apple, Samsung, Microsoft, XREAL and more. The company by Draper Associates (Tim Draper), HorizonVC, Bain Capital, IAG Capital, Clay, and other technical VCs and angels.
Responsibilities:
- Use 3D CAD software to independently model prototypes while balancing functional, manufacturing, and industrial design requirements.
- Manufacture and assemble prototypes with a high level of craftsmanship using rapid prototyping techniques (predominantly 3D printing, both FDM and SLA).
- Engage with external vendors and partners to compare and select specific components.
- Develop and execute testing procedures for the evaluation of new components and subsystems with statistical analysis.
- Research and advise on procurement for new equipment as needed.
- Wear prototypes outside the lab (dogfood).
Requirements:
- Current student enrolled in or graduated from a mechanical engineering or similar degree program, or equivalent work experience.
- Strong grasp of ME fundamentals and can approach problems in an organized way, using first principles and overarching system-level consideration.
- Strong 3D CAD skills (Solidworks preferred, but not required).
- Strong mechanical aptitude with hands-on experience and takes pride in the craftsmanship of their work.
- Experience with rigorous testing and qualification processes.
- Clear communication skills.
- Willingness to wear (dogfood) prototypes outside the lab in personal life.
