Are you a seasoned professional who thrives on making a difference? We’re looking for a Management trainee with the common sense, judgement, knowledge and adaptability to lead our non-profit organization. If you want to drive community-focused transportation solutions with a team that respects your expertise, this role is for you.

What You’ll Do

Prepare to assume the role of Executive Director within 1-2 years by developing advanced leadership skills and deep organizational knowledge. This role is designed for seasoned professionals eager to apply their expertise to drive meaningful community impact while mentoring others and shaping sustainable transportation solutions.

  • Lead with Purpose: Oversee projects that enhance our vanpool services and public transportation information clearinghouse, ensuring they meet community needs on time and within budget.
  • Solve Problems Like a Pro: Use your experience to anticipate challenges, address barriers, and keep projects aligned with our mission to improve access to transportation.
  • Mentor and Collaborate: Work with a dedicated team, sharing your knowledge while learning from others in a supportive, mission-driven environment.
  • Drive Community Impact: Manage grant budgets, timelines, and stakeholders with the clarity and efficiency that comes from years of real-world experience.
  • Public-facing leader, you will represent MRTMA to diverse audiences, serving as a key advocate for sustainable transportation while maintaining confidentiality of sensitive information.

What You Bring

  • Proven Track Record: 10 years of project management experience, ideally in non-profit, transportation, or community services. PMP or similar certification is a plus.
  • Practical Know-How: Strong organizational skills, with a talent for focusing on what matters to deliver meaningful outcomes.
  • Communication That Connects: You know how to engage everyone—community partners, team members, and stakeholders—without fluff or jargon.
  • Adaptability: Comfortable with modern tools (e.g., Asana, Slack, MS Project) but grounded in practical approaches that serve our mission.
  • Mission-Driven Mindset: You value independence, accountability, and a workplace that respects your life outside of work.
  • Flexibility: Ability to work some weekends and overtime as project demands require.

Why Join Us?

  • Respect for Your Experience: We value the perspective you bring from decades of navigating change and solving problems.
  • Meaningful Impact: Lead initiatives that make transportation more accessible and equitable, directly improving lives in our community.
  • Solid Benefits: Competitive salary, company contribution for 403(b) or health insurance premiums and PTO—because you’ve earned it.
  • Mission-Driven Culture: A straightforward, collaborative environment where your work supports our commitment to public good, not bureaucracy.
  • Opportunities to collaborate with state, regional and national experts in the transportation field.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND OTHER CHARACTERISTICS

  • Expertise: Deep understanding of organizational policies, nonprofit operations, and employee supervision principles.
  • Leadership: Proven ability to lead teams, mentor staff, and manage day-to-day operations with strategic foresight.
  • Communication: Exceptional skills in public relations, marketing, and professional communication, both written and verbal.
  • Technical Proficiency: Advanced proficiency in personal computers, including word processing, spreadsheets, databases, website maintenance, and standard office equipment (e.g., copiers, multi-line phones).
  • Interpersonal Skills: Ability to build effective relationships with diverse stakeholders, including elected officials, community leaders, business owners and workforce.
  • Organizational Acumen: Strong time management, multitasking, and attention to detail in a dynamic, deadline-driven environment.
