Raritan Valley Community College currently has three anticipated openings for Custodians. Under supervision of the Custodial Supervisor and the Building & Grounds Manager, the Custodian will perform custodial services for campus buildings and grounds. This position is responsible for general housekeeping of the campus.
Essential Duties:
Performs a wide variety of routine cleaning duties at campus buildings which include, sweeping, mopping, vacuum cleaning, dusting tasks and light labor.
Maintains restrooms which include cleaning of walls, sinks fixtures, toilets and mirrors. Replenishes towels, tissues and soap dispensers.
Empties trash receptacles. Performs recycling duties when necessary.
Clean entrances to buildings. Includes debris at interior and exterior areas to buildings.
Performs work assigned by the Custodial Supervisor which are associated with assisting staff with set ups of special events and college activities.
Clear snow and ice from entrance ways, walkways, and steps. Shovels or sweeps areas. Operate snow blowers.
Operate cleaning machinery when cleaning soft and hard surfaces such as vacuum cleaners, floor scrubbers and carpet extractors.
Other duties as assigned.
Job Requirements:
High school diploma or general education degree (GED).
6 months to 1 year of previous custodial experience.
Must possess valid driver's license.
Must be able to lift and carry at least 50 pounds.
Understanding safe use of chemicals and cleaning materials as instructed by site supervisor. Following health and safety guidelines and the use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
Maintain all school standards of hygiene and safety.
Flexibility of schedule is imperative. Depending upon the nature of the work assignment, individuals should be available to work any shift or day of the week.

Lift and carry equipment weighing up to 50 pounds for a distance of 50 feet.
