Shipping and Warehouse Associate

Rappahannock Oyster Co. is a family-owned seafood company with roots in the Chesapeake Bay dating back to 1899. Today, we are a vertically integrated oyster company that raises, harvests, packs, distributes, and serves premium oysters and other seafood. Our operations include oyster farms throughout Virginia, a wholesale distribution business, and restaurants in several major markets.

Rappahannock Oyster Co. is seeking a hardworking, reliable, and team-oriented individual to join our shipping and distribution team. This position will help pack and prepare seafood orders for shipment while also transporting products and supplies between our facilities and farms.

The position is based primarily in Melfa, VA.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

• Preparing oysters, clams, and other seafood for wholesale distribution
• Accurately packing, labeling, and organizing customer orders
• Inspecting orders before shipment to ensure product quality and accuracy
• Loading and unloading trucks using forklifts, pallet jacks, and other material-handling equipment
• Preparing boxes, packaging materials, labels, and supplies for upcoming shipments
• Receiving incoming seafood and verifying quantities, condition, and required documentation
• Maintaining required product temperatures and following proper cold-chain procedures
• Completing shipping, receiving, and traceability records accurately
• Following all company food-safety procedures and applicable local, state, and federal regulations, including HACCP, sanitation, shellfish-tagging, and Department of Shellfish Sanitation requirements
• Cleaning and maintaining vehicles, work areas, equipment, and storage spaces
• Supporting farm and production operations by gathering and transporting supplies as needed
• Communicating clearly with farm, packing, sales, and distribution team members
• Identifying problems and helping improve packing, shipping, and inventory systems

The ideal candidate will:

• Have a valid driver’s license and a safe driving record
• Be dependable, punctual, and able to work with limited supervision
• Be able to safely lift and carry boxes of seafood and supplies
• Be comfortable working for extended periods in a refrigerated environment
• Pay close attention to order accuracy, food safety, and product quality
• Be willing to learn forklift and pallet-jack operation
• Work well as part of a team and communicate effectively
• Be flexible when schedules or daily priorities change
• Take pride in completing work thoroughly and correctly

Experience in seafood, food production, warehousing, shipping, or commercial driving is helpful but not required. We are willing to train the right person who brings a strong work ethic, good judgment, and a willingness to learn.

Pay: $16.00 - $19.00 per hour
