Job Summary
Seeking a law school graduate awaiting VA Bar results, newly licensed VA attorney, or VA licensed attorney with less than 5 years of experience practicing law. Must have an interest in criminal defense, but a desire to practice in multiple areas of law is acceptable.
Responsibilities
- Conduct comprehensive legal research and assist with legal documents such as jury instructions, motions, or appellate filings.
- Assist in trial preparation by organizing evidence, preparing exhibits, interviewing witnesses, and coordinating witness testimony.
- Participate in client interviews and meet with incarcerated clients in various jails.
- Manage case files efficiently using legal case management software while maintaining meticulous records of all case activities.
- Communicate effectively with clients and client families to update them on case progress and gather necessary information for ongoing matters.
- If licensed, represent clients in courts in the Middle Peninsula and Northern Neck areas of Virginia.
Requirements
- Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.
- Valid bar admission or eligibility to sit for the bar exam in the relevant jurisdiction.
- Demonstrated interest in criminal law.
- Strong legal research skills and legal writing and drafting skills with attention to detail.
- Proven ability to handle litigation processes including trial preparation and legal motion filing.
- Effective negotiation skills combined with a proactive approach to problem-solving.
- Prior experience working in a law office environment is preferred but not mandatory. This position offers an excellent platform for aspiring attorneys to get hands-on experience and grow their own practice.
NOTE: HYBRID work arrangement available. Salary will be based on experience, and revenue split may be an option for licensed attorneys.
