About
Rapid Control Service is an industry-leading technical distributor of industrial automation products and services to West Michigan's leading system builders and manufacturing operations.
Customer Service Representatives (CSR) are the backbone of our inside team, supporting customers directly and working with our Account Managers and Sales Engineers to provide outstanding service and product knowledge.
CSRs work directly with our customers and collaborate with our Account Managers to prepare and submit quotes, receive and enter orders, and handle customer service issues as they arise. They also work closely with our vendors to specify and quote products and manage order-related logistics.
CSRs are trained to use our modern Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system, TrulinX, as well as the full suite of Microsoft Office software, including Word, Excel, Teams, Outlook, and OneDrive. Familiarity with CAD systems and technical documents including drawings, blueprints, and Bills of Materials (BOMs) is not required, but would be helpful.
CRSs cross-train with other departments to assist as needed with tasks such as picking, packing, and shipping orders or light assembly of valve manifolds, cylinders, and other items.
We provide ongoing training on our internal systems and products and have paths for advancement or lateral moves into operations, sales, or management roles.
Our headquarters and warehouse are located in Grand Rapids, Michigan; we serve customers throughout lower Michigan.
Some of the position’s daily tasks include
- Assist customers by phone or email, and in person at our retail storefront
- Interact with customers to clarify their needs, research, and recommend a complete solution
- Prepare quotes, process orders, and provide service-after-sale
- From time to time assist in other departments
Required Qualifications
- This is an on-site position; candidates must be willing to commute to our Grand Rapids office
- Aptitude for mechanical, electrical, and pneumatic systems and equipment
- Be highly organized, with excellent attention to detail
- Excellent communication and customer service skills including by phone, email and in person
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Thrive in a challenging, fast-paced environment
- Willingness to get hands-on with customers to help troubleshoot challenging applications
- Proficient with general PC use, Microsoft Office Suite and other standard business software and applications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Valid driver’s license and clean driving record
Preferred but not required
- Experience in customer service
- Experience in an industrial and/or manufacturing environment with fluid power and automation systems and equipment
- Experience with ERP, order management and entry, and/or business accounting software
