Job Summary: This position supports the safe and efficient operation of airport facilities through routine maintenance, inspections, and repairs of airfield infrastructure and equipment.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Airport Airside Maintenance Technician I: (Salary Range: $44,590.17 – $58,449.27)
· Monitor and maintain aspects of the aircraft movement areas including hard surface condition, turf condition, painted markings, guidance signs and edge lights and their respective electrical systems, navigational aids, wildlife management, and grounds management.
· Perform a variety of semi-skilled work in the maintenance and repair work of airport and airfield buildings, property, pavement, and lighting systems with focus on airfield movement areas.
· Maintain and repair airport visual and navigational aids.
· Perform preventive maintenance inspections and services for Heating Ventilation Air Conditioning (HVAC) units, electrical, plumbing, access gates, jet bridges, and mechanical units across airport-owned buildings and grounds.
· Respond to service requests and maintains maintenance logs.
· Monitor the airfield condition for compliance with Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Part 139 Certification Requirements and Advisory Circular Guidelines.
· Perform grounds and airfield maintenance, including mowing, weed control, seeding, fertilizing, herbicide and pesticide application.
· Operate light and heavy equipment used in the maintenance of the airfield grounds and facilities.
· Participate in snow removal operations with 12-hour shifts or until end of storm event. Operate multiple types of heavy snow removal equipment.
· Work variable hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, and participate in on-call rotation to support operational needs.
· Other duties as assigned.
Airport Airside Maintenance Technician II: ($50,615.88 - $66,282.69)
· Perform all duties of Airport Airside Maintenance Technician.
· Assume a lead role on annual airfield projects including crack seal, paint markings, herbicide, mowing, and other projects.
· Train employees on routine tasks and equipment use.
· Act as lead person in absence of Airport Maintenance Lead.
Qualifications:
Airport Airside Maintenance Technician I:
· High school diploma or equivalent required.
· Two years of relevant experience, including facility maintenance, facility repair, or small to heavy equipment operations preferred, specifically in an airport, aviation or airfield environment.
· Must possess a valid South Dakota driver’s license or ability to obtain within 30 days from date of hire. Class B Commercial Driver’s License is preferred but is not required.
· Must obtain and maintain an airport movement area driver permit within 30 days from date of hire.
· Must obtain and maintain a Secure Identification Display Area (SIDA) badge, upon hire.
Airport Airside Maintenance Technician II:
· Must meet all Airport Airside Maintenance Technician I requirements. In addition:
· Three years of relevant experience required, including facility maintenance, facilities repair, or small to heavy equipment operations.
Work Environment:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; moving mechanical parts; fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals; outside weather conditions and extreme cold. The employee is occasionally exposed to high, precarious places, extreme heat and risk of electrical shock. The noise level in the work environment is usually very loud.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel and reach with hands and arms. The employee is frequently required to stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to climb or balance and taste or smell. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
