Job Title: SEXUAL ASSAULT COUNSELOR (SAC)

Reports to: SA Services Director, Rape Crisis Center of Horry & Georgetown Counties (RCC)

Qualifications: Minimum of a Master’s Degree in social work, counseling, or related mental health field. Must be licensed in South Carolina as a licensed clinical social worker (LMSW minimum) or a licensed professional counselor (LPC minimum), and must have at least one year of experience working in the area of trauma. Proven ability to communicate effectively with others both verbally and in written form. Able to work both independently and as part of a team.

Salary: $48,000-$58,000 plus a generous benefits packages, including flexible schedule, health insurance, dental insurance, short-term disability, paid leave, retirement plan, etc. Commensurate with experience.

General Summary of Duties: The Sexual Assault Counselor (SAC) provides short-term individual and group counseling for primary and secondary survivors of sexual assault and their non-offending support systems. The SAC also provides overall victim advocacy, crisis intervention, and hospital accompaniment to victims of sexual assault when participating in on-call rotation.

JOB EXPECTATIONS

Sexual Assault Counselor:

  • Provides in person and telehealth counseling to victims of sexual assault in both individual and group settings using specified treatment modalities and curriculum.
  • Previous training in trauma-informed services and/or victim services preferred.
  • Assesses client appropriateness for current RCC treatment modalities and make necessary plans for referrals if needed.
  • Assists survivors by providing referrals to other mental health services or agencies, if necessary, throughout treatment, or as part of discharge planning.
  • Possesses strong case management and organizational skills.
  • Creates and maintains collaborative relationships with other providers within Horry and Georgetown Counties related to counseling and mental health treatment.
  • Participates in training/onboarding for volunteers and new staff.
  • Conducts educational presentations for the community as requested.
  • Maintains digital client files with documentation of assessment, counseling session notes, development of short- and long- term treatment planning, and any other documents necessary for coordination of care.
  • Maintains confidentiality as applicable by SC law and RCC policy and procedures.
  • Assists services director in RCC internship programming, guidance, development, and oversight as assigned.

On-Call Rotation Expectations:

  • Provides on-call crisis intervention and hospital accompaniment on a rotating on-call schedule.
  • Maintains training and continuing education relevant to role.
  • Maintains confidentiality as applicable by SC law and RCC policy and procedures.
  • All other duties as assigned.

*This position is currently a hybrid remote/in-office position. Employee must live within Horry or Georgetown counties, SC to ensure reasonable response time to area hospitals.
