What are the responsibilities and job description for the Asphalt Milling Foreman position at Ranger Construction?

Summary:

The Milling Foreman supervises and manages a Milling Crew doing site preparation for multiple private, municipal, state, and federal projects. Reporting to the Superintendent, s/he will direct, coordinate, and budget activities concerned with road surfacing aspects of the construction project. S/he will coordinate with the Superintendent to develop best means and methods on job production goals, labor and materials, scheduling, safety, and quality.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

· Meet with Superintendent to review status of project, set production goals, update job progress, and address existing and potential issues impacting production.

· Ensure thorough understanding of job objectives to effectively direct crew in job tasks and activities required to meet daily goals.

· Review all contracts, project documentation, and plans to ensure that the work in the field is built to the most recent specifications.

· Plan the day to day operations on assigned project and ensure that proper resources are in place for the timely completion of work, including labor, tools, equipment and material; and oversee Milling crew activities to ensure compliance with design specifications and quality of finished product.

· Conduct daily briefings with crew to review production goals, performance feedback, safety and schedule, hazards, and to solicit feedback from workers.

· Take responsibility for crew performance as it relates to Company goals, safety audits, and following Company policies and procedures; coach, counsel, and train crew members in machinery utilization and effective production operations; review crew training to accomplish cross-training on equipment, effective equipment maintenance, and remedial operator training as needed.

· Communicate with contractors and subcontractors to coordinate work schedules, production goals, and deadlines.

· Review equipment condition, maintenance, and repair needs.

· Perform a variety of administrative tasks such as production reports, timesheets, equipment logs, inspection reports, change orders, and updating project files.

· Always communicate and promote safe working practices and Company safety standards.

· Take action to handle the results of delays, bad weather, or emergencies at construction sites.

· Inspect and review projects to monitor compliance with building and safety codes, and other regulations.

· Investigate damage, accidents, or delays at construction site to ensure that proper procedures are being followed.

· Perform projects and other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

· Bachelor’s Degree preferred; degree in Mathematics, Architecture or Engineering preferred.

· 3 years of related experience.

· An understanding of the road construction industry and the ability to work under deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

· Extensive knowledge of and experience in the civil construction field, equipment, and job management.

· Understanding of OSHA regulations pertaining to road construction and asphalt operations.

· Understanding of DOT specifications and standards.

· Excellent scheduling, problem resolution, communication, and leadership skills.

· Strong analytical skills: very detail oriented, organized, and able to supervise the work of others.

· Good verbal and written communication skills.

· Proficiency in MS Office. Familiarity with Oracle Enterprise One is a plus.

· Valid driver’s license with a driving record that meets Company standards.

Physical Demands:

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, sit, kneel, walk, talk, see, hear, push, pull, climb, bend, and stoop. The employee frequently is required to stand, (for up to 8 eight hours), walk (occasionally on rough terrain/in varying weather conditions), climb, use manual dexterity to operate tools used in the course of work, hear sufficient to hear conversations in person and via telephone and radio, and vision sufficient for distance sight and to read diagrams, computer screens, manual reports, rules, regulations, laws, and plans. The employee is occasionally required to reach, push, and pull with hands and arms. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Physical dexterity may involve stretching, proper placement of legs, and use of arms and hands in repetitive motions. The employee must be able to maintain constant alertness to the multiple concurrent activities occurring at the site, including the activities of other employees and contractors, the operation of stationary equipment, and the movement of mobile equipment.
