What are the responsibilities and job description for the Student Council Sponsor position at Rangely Junior/Senior High School?
The ideal candidate will empower students to voice their ideas, manage projects effectively, and build a positive, inclusive culture across the entire student body.
Key Responsibilities
1. Student Leadership & Mentorship
- Recruit, mentor, and guide elected Student Council officers and class representatives.
- Conduct regular meetings (weekly or bi-weekly) using basic parliamentary procedure or structured agendas to teach governance skills.
- Help students develop essential life skills, including public speaking, project management, budgeting, and conflict resolution.
2. Event Planning & Coordination
- Oversee the planning and execution of major school traditions, including but not limited to:
- Homecoming Week - With the help of class sp[omsors oversees school traditions such as spirit weeks, pep rallies, bonfires, parades, the dance, etc.
- Community Service Projects - Oversees student leaders when organizing food drives, charity fundraisers, pink out games, and associated fundraisers, blood drives, and other local outreach.
- Collaborates and oversees the Rowdy Worm Event (after prom party) with the Rowdy Worm Coordinator.
- School Spirit Events (Assemblies, seasonal dress-up days, and intramural fun).
- Springfest Celebration for high school students in coordination with the administration.
- Coordinate event logistics, including facility scheduling, security & chaperones, custodial needs, administrative approvals, etc.
3. Financial & Administrative Management
In collaboration with the Admin Asst to the Principal, oversees the Student Council budget and activity accounts in compliance with district financial policies.
- Supervise all fundraising activities, ensuring accurate record-keeping of revenues and expenditures.
- Maintain open communication with school administration, faculty, parents, and community stakeholders regarding upcoming events.
4. Supervision & Safety
- Provide direct supervision at all Student Council-sponsored events, meetings, and field trips.
- Ensure all student activities adhere to school district policies, safety protocols, and the student code of conduct.
Qualifications & Expectations
- Employment Status: Must be a current certified staff member or qualified classified employee within the district (preferred), or a qualified community member capable of passing a background check.
- Skills: Exceptional organizational, communication, and time-management skills. Ability to balance a high-energy environment with structured planning.
- Availability: Flexible schedule required, including availability for early morning or after-school meetings, and evening/weekend supervision during major events.
