What are the responsibilities and job description for the Director of Engineering position at Range Systems?
Range Systems is an industry-leading provider of shooting range and target systems equipment. We work with architects, construction contractors, and range owners around the world on firing range project including those used by the military and law enforcement.
Position Purpose:
This key, hands-on, leadership role oversees all engineering operations, including product development, process optimization, quality assurance and team leadership, ensuring projects are completed efficiently and effectively on a timely basis. They are responsible for strategic planning, resource allocation, and fostering a culture of innovation within the engineering team. Work collaboratively with all other departments to maximize sales and production.
Essential Functions:
Strategic Planning & Leadership:
- Develop and implement engineering strategies aligned with overall company goals, setting objectives, and driving innovation
- Create and support a work environment that supports innovation, quality and success
- Establish and implement engineering practices, processes, and goals
- Lead engineering projects by setting objectives, requirements, and timeframes that support the organization’s EOS rocks
- Research new products, technology and market verticals to help grow our business
- Ensure compliance with industry standards, regulations, and quality control measures. Manage risk appropriately
- Work closely with other departments, such as operations, purchasing, and sales/marketing, to ensure seamless integration and alignment of engineering efforts
- Provide technical guidance and support to the engineering team, staying abreast of new technologies and methodologies
- Lead, mentor, and develop a small team, fostering a collaborative and high-performing environment. Provide knowledge sharing to build capacity within the team
- Develop and manage the engineering department budget, ensuring efficient resource allocation
- Actively participate in the executive L10 team meetings; help to support the organizational culture and strategic business initiatives.
Project Management and Process Optimization:
- Oversee the planning, execution, and completion of engineering projects, ensuring they are on time, within budget, and meet quality standards
- Direct testing and quality assurance efforts to ensure successful outcomes
- Manage and oversee the department’s financing, expenses, and budgeting
- Ensure that all documentation to integrate new products aligns with our manufacturing and financial operational control processes
- Identify and implement improvements to manufacturing processes, equipment, and technologies to enhance efficiency and reduce costs

Education / Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in a relevant engineering field
- 10 years of working experience in an engineering environment
Pay: $150,000.00 - $170,000.00 per year
