Medical Explorer - Returning Student

Memorial Hospital is offering an exciting educational opportunity for students that have an interest in the healthcare field! As a Medical Explorer, you will have the chance to learn about a variety of healthcare career paths from professionals currently in the field. During this 9 month, free and un-paid program, you will get hands-on, real-world experience in a variety of healthcare fields. All meetings are held in Chester, IL on the third Thursday of the month from September through April and the first Thursday of May. Spots are limited so don’t miss out on this one of a kind opportunity!
Eligibility Requirements:
- Must reside in one of the following counties:
- Illinois – Randolph, Jackson, St. Clair, Perry, or Monroe
- Missouri – Perry or Ste. Genevieve
- Must be in grades 9 -12 of high school or in college for the 2026-2027 school year
- Must be between the ages of 14-20
- Must have a GPA of at least 3.0
- Must have an interest in a career in the healthcare field
Required Documents for Returning Medical Explorer Applicants:
- Letter of interest telling us why you would like to be in the program (Please attach during application.)
- Most recent grades or transcript (Please attach during application.)
- If participating in a job shadow:
- A TB gold immunization will be required prior to starting job shadow. This is a one-time test. If a student has had this previously, they can provide proof of testing.
Program Requirements:
- Must have a personal email account that is checked regularly
- Must download the Remind app to use for communication and updates
- Must have availability to attend the monthly meetings (Some leeway is given for students in sports and other extracurricular activities.)
- Must complete 4 hours of volunteer time from September – May (Volunteer time can count for National Honor Society or other required volunteer programs.)
- Must conduct themselves in a professional and responsible manner
- Must dress appropriately
- Must maintain good academic standing
