Job Description
Summary/objective
The Director of Admission is responsible for collaborating with the VP of Enrollment Management on recruitment initiatives, hiring practices, marketing materials, strategy for territory development, CRM implementation, goal setting, and creative ideas for the office/campus. The Director of Admission will supervise the freshman admission team and is also responsible for recruiting their own individual territory. The Director of Admission is expected to plan, execute, and direct visionary goals set by the VP of Enrollment Management and college administration. The Director of Admission will serve on various committees to enhance faculty and staff involvement on campus. The Director of Admission is expected to learn and uphold the brand of Randolph College and provide oversight and guidance to the recruitment staff.
Essential functions
- Provide vision, direction, and strong oversight in the implementation of a comprehensive, customer service-oriented student recruitment and outreach program for the College.
- Will collaborate with the VP of Enrollment Management’s leadership team: Director of Financial Aid, Director of Transfer and International Recruitment, and the Director of Admission Operations to execute the goals of the college.
- Actively lead, manage, and motivate all admissions counselors in the implementation of recruitment strategies with prospects, inquiries, applicants and admits throughout the admissions cycle by creating a supportive and collaborative environment for success and professional development.
- Direct aggressive territory management and outreach activities of admission staff through research and data analysis of regional, national, and geo-demographic trends.
- Is visible as a public official of Randolph College and completes this role with enthusiasm and professionalism. Articulate public speaking skills for recruitment engagements are required.
- Review all applications submitted for a decision through the College’s CRM (Slate).
- Extensive travel to high schools for private visits and college fairs to supplement the existing travel schedule, to train and assess staff and alumnae volunteers, and to develop a direct understanding of the attractiveness of Randolph College to prospective students, parents, and guidance counselors.
- Collaborate with the VP of Enrollment Management to strengthen the marketing activities of the enrollment division in creation and production of supporting materials (print, e-communications, social media, video, etc.) to insure consistency of brand, timeliness of campaigns, and the creation and dissemination of clear and compelling messages.
- Work with faculty to support new academic initiatives as they align with strategic enrollment goals, including advising, grant proposal, and partnering to establish greater market share and positioning within distinctive academic areas.
- Give direction and support to staff who work with all on-campus as well as off-campus volunteers who engage in recruitment activities on behalf of the College.
- Regularly assess and report on success of activities undertaken, measuring outcomes, and adjusting projects for continuous improvement toward meeting and exceeding enrollment goals.
- Establish, maintain, and strengthen relationships with secondary schools, independent counselors, other organizations, and institutions representing potential student prospects.
- Develop, coordinate, and implement all on-campus recruitment programs with the campus community, internally and externally.
- Hire and oversee training of new admission counseling staff.
- Communicate effectively with key stakeholders such as faculty, coaches, alumni, and current students.
- Collaborate on strategies including travel, student search, and territory management to make most effective use of staff within budget restrictions.
Work environment:
Primarily work in an office setting. Will work in different weather conditions for tours and events held outside.
Physical demands:
Must be able to lift 25-50lbs.
Travel required:
Extensive travel can be required throughout the recruitment cycle.
Required education and experience:
- Bachelor’s degree required; 7 years of admissions experience in a student recruitment role.
- Supervisory experience required.
- Demonstrated leadership abilities, including short and long-term goal setting and achievement, and the ability to motivate staff to achieve results.
- Demonstrated ability to be both operationally adept with a focus on strategy.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills and organizational skills required.
- Ability to interact persuasively and effectively with a variety of populations.
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively, manage multiple projects, meet deadlines, and manage details.
- Ability to create a healthy work environment in order to ensure staff success and retention.
- Ability to maintain discretion and confidentiality.
- Must possess an elevated level of proficiency in MS Word, Excel, and Office 360.
- Must have intermediate to advanced knowledge of CRM usage (preferably slate).
- Hold a valid driver’s license.
- Travel, evening, and weekend work are a requirement of this position.
Preferred education and experience
- Master’s degree.
- 8 years of experience in a highly competitive private college environment or in a similar higher-education related industry.
- Experience creating; and attaining net tuition revenue goals in the successful recruitment of first year classes at the college level.
- Significant experience in awarding and leveraging financial aid as part of an overall recruitment strategy.
Additional eligibility requirements
Must have a valid U.S. driver’s license with a clean driving record.
