Garden Center/Farm Market Maintenance Generalist

Position Overview:

The Garden Center/Farm Market Maintenance Generalist supports the daily operational flow of the farm and greenhouse. This hands-on role is responsible for equipment operation, property maintenance, material handling, and ensuring year-round operational efficiency and safety.

Core Responsibilities:

Logistics, Plant care & Material Handling

• Load and unload deliveries (plants, soil, fertilizer, pottery, hard goods).
• Verify shipments against packing slips and organize bulk storage.
• Move plant material between greenhouses and retail spaces.
• Water plant material in greenhouse and outdoor retail areas as needed to maintain plant health and quality.
• Operate equipment safely

Infrastructure & Property Management

• Assist in maintaining greenhouse structures, benches, irrigation lines, and growing systems
• Assist with irrigation setup, seasonal startup, and winterization.
• Perform minor repairs to fencing, greenhouses, storage areas, and equipment.

Grounds & Seasonal Operations

• Mowing, trimming, and general groundskeeping.
• Snow removal
• Available during Emergencies
• Maintain parking lots and customer traffic areas.

Facility & Safety Oversight

• Maintain clean, organized workspaces and storage areas.
• Support safety protocols

Minimum Education: High School Diploma or equivalent required.

Minimum Experience: 3–5 years in farm operations, construction, logistics, landscaping, or facility maintenance preferred.

Skills:

• Must be able to follow oral and written instructions and established procedures.
• Proven experience operating forklifts and tractors (certification preferred).
• Strong mechanical aptitude and knowledge of tools/equipment.
• Willingness to learn and gain responsibilities as needed.
• Ability to lift and carry 50 lbs repeatedly.
• Valid Driver’s License with a clean driving record.
• Ability to work independently

Physical Requirements: Prolonged standing/walking required. Moderate physical

effort: (lift/carry frequent up to 50lbs). Requires prolonged standing, walking, bending, and strenuous physical effort.

Working Conditions:

• Work is performed in greenhouse, farm, and warehouse environments with exposure to all weather conditions, heat, cold, dust, and noise.
• Workload and priorities shift throughout the year to support peak retail seasons

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $15.00 - $17.00 per hour
