Position Details:
- This position is located in our NYC headquarters and follows a hybrid schedule. 3 days in-office / 2 days working remotely.
- Salary Range: $115,000 - $130,000 USD Annual
Position Summary:
The Director of Sustainability will be responsible for driving organizational change by leading and coordinating the implementation of RAA’s recently announced Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) Roadmap. RAA’s ESG Roadmap contains three key pillars – People, Planet, Products – and lays out short-term and long-term goals designed to integrate sustainability throughout RAA’s product offerings, create a responsible, traceable, and transparent supply chain, and empower RAA’s teams globally by driving equity and creating good livelihoods.
The Director of Sustainability will partner closely with RAA’s leadership team to implement and integrate the strategy that achieves the goals of the ESG Roadmap and communicates RAA’s goals and progress to internal and external stakeholders. The Director of Sustainability will collaborate with working groups among RAA associates supporting each of the three pillars to build out an implementation timeline and strategy for each ESG goal and will be responsible for ensuring that the organization makes progress on each of those goals in accordance with those timelines, and will be responsible for developing updates to the ESG strategy over time. The Director of Sustainability will also take the lead on developing and implementing a communication strategy for our ESG Roadmap, focused on effective and meaningful communication to RAA’s external partners, its customers, and its associates.
Position Responsibilities:
- Work with leaders throughout RAA’s several business units to develop and implement a comprehensive path for achieving RAA’s ESG goals in each of the Products, Plant, and People pillars.
- Drive analysis and solutions development for ESG Roadmap pillars, with a particular focus on reducing the climate impact of RAA’s supply chain and domestic operations.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure that sustainability is integrated into all aspects of the company's operations, including product design and development, product packaging, marketing, supply chain management, and corporate operations.
- Identify and assess environmental and social risks and opportunities associated with the company’s operations and supply chain, particularly in Central America and Asia.
- Develop sustainability metrics and reporting systems to track progress and communicate results to internal and external stakeholders.
- Stay abreast of industry trends and advancements in sustainability and recommend changes to RAA’s ESG strategy as appropriate.
- Create & deliver internal sustainability training to support sustainability strategy.
- Support our HR team and Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) committee in planning for and implementing the “People” portion of our roadmap, including by helping to develop and track key metrics and goals related to DEI and associate wellbeing.
- Advise and support our leadership team in employee engagement and change management as related to DEI and Sustainability
- Be an enthusiastic internal champion for the sustainability strategy and the value it will create in the company.
Position Requirements:
- Minimum 5-7 years of experience in sustainability in the apparel industry, or in another product-focused industry (e.g. consumer packaged goods, retail), including experience working with international suppliers.
- Experience leading oversight of sustainability activities across multiple working groups.
- Advanced knowledge of sustainability measurement methodologies used in the apparel industry, including the Higg Index
- Experience with Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Protocol; Scope 1, 2, 3 inventories, and emissions reductions processes.
- Working knowledge of the Science Based Targets initiative.
- Exceptional project management skills: adept at planning and managing multi-stakeholder initiatives and solving problems/removing obstacles to get work done/drive execution.
- Familiarity with relevant regulatory frameworks, including emerging mandatory reporting guidance in the US and EU.
- Superior understanding of sustainability-related industry standards, and best practices.
- Passion for social and environmental change and the role of the private sector in leading it.
