What are the responsibilities and job description for the Certified Welding Inspector position at Rand Logistics?
Conneaut Creek Ship Repair, a subsidiary of Rand Logistics, is seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Certified Welding Inspector to assess all quality assurance and quality control (QA/QC) activities at our shipyard. The ideal candidate will be responsible for ensuring that all ship repair and maintenance processes meet internal quality standards and comply with industry regulations and customer specifications. This role requires close collaboration with production, engineering, safety, and regulatory teams to maintain the highest standards of workmanship and compliance
Responsibilities and Duties (but not limited to):
· Develop, implement, and maintain shipyard’s Quality Management System in accordance with ABS, USCG and other applicable standards
· Conduct regular inspections, audits, and tests on materials, welding, structural components, piping, coatings, and other vessel systems
· Review and approve quality documentation
· Interface with clients, class, and customer representatives to coordinate inspections and resolve quality concerns
· Investigate and document non-conformities, root causes, and corrective/preventative actions
· Provide training and support to production teams to promote a quality-focused culture
· Ensure compliance with OSHA, EPA, and other HSE standards as related to quality processes
· Support continuous improvement initiatives by identifying trends and recommending process improvements
· Compile/Maintain library of training certificates, welders’ qualification, and other qualifications
· Execute inspections according to QA/QC plan in accordance with required inspection procedures. Work with Project Manager on documentation and other requirements
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Quality Management, or related field (or equivalent experience)
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in quality control within a shipbuilding, repair, or heavy industrial environment
- Strong understanding of NDT methods (VT, MT, PT, UT, RT)
