What are the responsibilities and job description for the Registered Veterinary Technician (RVT) position at Rancho Pet Hospital?
Looking for a motivated and experienced Registered Veterinary Technician (RVT) with a dedicated work ethic and the ability to be self-sufficient. The ideal candidate has prior experience in a veterinary clinical setting, is willing to grow with the hospital, and is open to eventually adopting some administrative tasks. The RVT is responsible for the daily care of all our patients, including our surgery patients (proficiency in anesthetic monitoring and certain surgical procedures such as dental scaling/polishing is to be expected).
Primary Duties and Expectations:
- Assist the doctor with proper restraint techniques during exams and treatment
- Perform the following: preparation of sterile surgical suite and instruments, venipuncture, IV catheter placement, and administration of medication
- Independently monitor anesthesia pets during a variety of surgical procedures
- Perform laboratory tests to assist in diagnosis and treatment
- Obtain proper medical history prior to exams and ensuring up to date medical records for each patient
- Continuously expand your skills with training, mentorship, and continuing education
Minimum Qualifications:
- Required Registered Veterinary Technician license valid in the state of California
- Minimum of 1 year experience working as a Registered Veterinary Technician
- Flexible with scheduling - must be available to work rotating weekend shifts if needed
- Required prior dental scaling/polishing experience
Physical Requirements: The candidate will be required to stand for long periods and perform moderately heavy physical labor, and must be able to handle and restrain animals. Must be able to lift up to 40lbs unassisted.
Organizational Structure: The RVT works under the supervision of the primary doctor, however, they will also receive guidance/directions from the Practice Manager(s) and other staff members on a daily basis, as we strongly believe in a complete team effort.

Pay: $23.00 - $28.00 per hour
