What are the responsibilities and job description for the Assistant Veterinary Hospital Manager position at Rancho Pet Hospital?
Looking for a motivated and experienced Assistant Veterinary Practice Manager with a strong work ethic and the ability to be both self-sufficient and team-oriented. The ideal candidate has prior experience in a veterinary clinical setting and leadership/management experience, and is comfortable balancing administrative responsibilities with hands-on work on the hospital floor.
Primary Duties and Expectations:
- Direct and supervise team members while working closely alongside the practicing veterinarian(s)
- Monitor daily operations and collaborate with staff to ensure productivity, training, and quality goals are consistently met
- Oversee hiring processes, including interviews and exit interviews
- Manage staff scheduling and maintain appropriate inventory levels
- Set and track monthly and quarterly financial goals to ensure hospital performance targets are met
- Act as a client liaison to ensure each client’s experience is exceptional
- Work on the floor with fellow staff members (this is not a desk-only position), fulfilling Veterinary Technician duties including, but not limited to: venipuncture, IV catheter placement, administration of medication, independent anesthetic monitoring, and obtaining/maintaining accurate medical records
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s or Associate’s degree, or a minimum of 3 years of equivalent work experience (or a combination of education and experience)
- Prior personnel management experience, including conflict resolution, employee relations, and staff development
To be successful in this role:
- Must be an effective verbal and written communicator, able to build rapport, trust, and credibility with both clients and team members
- Ability to bridge the gap between high-level operations and day-to-day workflow, including staff relations and customer service
- Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to make sound decisions in fast-paced or ambiguous situations
- Ability to recognize when to escalate more complex operational or HR matters to upper management
- Maintain a balance between being an energizing leader and a calm, steady presence for the team
Physical Requirements: The candidate will be required to stand for long periods and perform moderately heavy physical labor, and must be able to handle and restrain animals. Must be able to lift up to 40lbs unassisted.
Organizational Structure: The Assistant Practice Manager works closely with and reports to the primary doctor and the primary Practice Manager/upper management, while also providing daily guidance and support to staff members. This role is both leadership-focused and team-oriented, as we strongly believe in a complete team effort.
