Job Description: Track and Field Head Coach

Title: Track and Field Head Coach (Seasonal)

Supervisor: Athletics Director

Classification: Non-exempt

Job Description

The Assistant Coach is responsible for all aspects of the program as indicated by the Head Coach, while abiding by the rules and regulations established by the California Interscholastic Federation, the League, and Rancho Community Church & Schools. He/She shall assist on implementing an exemplary sports program that will effectively provide the best possible education for each student-athlete.

Spiritual Qualifications

  • Demonstrate a passion for Christ and his Kingdom through personal spiritual discipline.
  • Seek to grow in that relationship with Christ through personal spiritual discipline, education, accountability and service to his Kingdom.

Professional Qualifications

  • Experience: At least 2 years coaching experience at any level.
  • Demonstrate strong knowledge of the sport as it pertains to California Interscholastic Federation
  • Demonstrate strong leadership in player and staff development
  • Possess strong communication and organizational skills
  • Commitment of seeking to grow in these areas, through additional training.
  • Hold CPR/First Aid/AED certification
  • Pass NFHS Sudden Cardiac Arrest Course with Certificate
  • Pass NFHS Concussion Course with Certificate
  • Pass NFHS Heat Illness Prevention Course with Certificate
  • Have proof of negative TB screening within the last four years
  • Education: Bachelor’s preferred

Areas Of Expected Proficiency

  • Knowledge of CIF rules and regulations preferred.
  • Direct the training, conditioning and performance of the program
  • Instruct athletes on correct form and techniques in beginning and advanced exercises to develop the maximum physical potential of each player.
  • Oversee each player as they develop and enhance his/her individual skills and ability.
  • Follows established procedures in the event of an athlete’s injury
  • Build a culture of connection & Christian fellowship with team members and future members.

Other Expectations

  • Jumpers assistant coach is responsible for training all skills and techniques specific to events: Hurdles, High Jump, Long Jump and Triple Jump.
  • Due to the events of this program assistant coach must work independently with athletes
  • Organize, maintain and manage all equipment of the events hurdles, high jump, long jump and triple jump.
  • Execute any off-season programs within CIF guidelines
  • Promote positive interaction with and among the student-athletes, the school, church and community.
  • Demonstrate enthusiasm for coaching and learning.
  • Encourage self-direction and self-motivation in all athletes
  • Possess the ability to adjust instruction of strategy and fundamentals to student-athletes’ needs and interests.
  • Possess the ability to plan and maintain an organized track and field program based on effective long range plans.
  • Oversee field care and maintenance, when appropriate.
  • Regularly attend & participate in athletic department meetings.
  • Attend all on-campus and off-campus track and field meets.
  • Additional duties may include special camps, retreats and conferences.
  • It is possible that this position may change or evolve as time moves on. Full cooperation is required as we strive to make our athletic department a great success.

  • Successfully pass Live Scan criminal background check prior to hire
  • Obtain certificate of negative result for TB screening prior to hire
