Role Description

The Engineering Manager is a hands-on leader who uses their technical background, industry knowledge, and team relationships – not only to manage the department, but to inspire, support, technically contribute, and continually drive their team towards success. The management of this department is critical to the success of the company as many downstream activities depend on its quality and timely output. This is a full-time, on-site role located at Ran-Tech’s facility in Clackamas, OR.


Essential Functions:

 Plans, develops, coordinates, supports, and directs engineering projects and/or programs within Ran-Tech.

 Estimates resource/staffing needs – schedules and assigns work to meet completion deadlines.

 Regularly meets with staff in groups and individually to provide performance feedback; prepares and monitors employee goals and performance reviews on time – every time.

 Works closely with customers, sales, planning, and production to provide coordination on new product introduction, process capability, and sustaining of existing products.

 Lead identification, justification, and installation of technology advancements. (New software, Processes, Equipment)

 Support operations by responding to requests or self-identifying to ensure sufficient capabilities and capacities exist that support and grow the business.

 Working harmoniously with other departments / team leaders to set project roadmaps, priorities, create strategies, and establish technical directions.

 Collaborate closely with upper management and leadership to ensure the wellbeing of the department and alignment with the company culture and goals.

 Coach, train, and mentor team in various job duties and through interpersonal issues as needed.

 Predictable and reliable attendance.

 Ability to adhere to deadlines and produce quality work.

 Ability to behave respectfully and work collaboratively with co-workers, customers, and vendors.

 Demonstrated skill in dealing with difficult situations including technical challenges, disgruntled employees, unhappy customers, quality escapes. Includes having appropriate “political” awareness with how to interact with each customer.

Minimum Qualifications:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.  Extensive experience in product and process failure analysis and an understanding of world-class manufacturing techniques such as LEAN, JIT, TQM, ISO

Excellent leadership skills (dept. planning, capability planning, strategizing, innovation), and must have managed a team of 5-10 engineers by developing department goals, PMD (Performance Management & Development) and roadmap.

 4 years minimum management experience including writing reviews, performance management, hire/fire decisions.

 Thorough knowledge and able to demonstrate skill of at least one CAD software such as CATIA, SolidWorks, NX, AutoCAD, MasterCAM etc.

 Strong and effective analytical skills with the ability to propose solutions to problems.

 Thorough knowledge/experience with CNC machinery/methods to determine the best processes to manufacture a part and meet customer requirements. Able to train others on same.

Education and/or Experience: Bachelor degree in relevant fields such as Manufacturing, Engineering, or Industrial Management. A minimum of 10 years professional engineering or management experience required.
