Duties
- Safely operate tractor-trailers with manual transmission across long-distance routes, adhering strictly to DOT (Department of Transportation) regulations and hazardous materials regulations when applicable.
- Load and unload freight using manual handling techniques, ensuring cargo is secured properly in refrigerated trailers, flatbeds, or tankers for safe transit.
- Navigate routes efficiently using GPS navigation systems, planning optimal routes for timely deliveries while complying with route driving best practices.
- Transport various types of freight including hazardous materials, dangerous goods, or specialized cargo such as automobile transportation or logistics cargo handling.
- Conduct pre-trip and post-trip inspections on trucks to identify maintenance needs or safety issues; document findings accurately in compliance with FMCSA standards.
- Communicate effectively with dispatch teams regarding delivery schedules, route changes, or vehicle issues; maintain logs of driving hours and delivery records as mandated by DOT regulations.
- Ensure all deliveries are completed accurately and professionally, providing excellent customer service during pickup and delivery processes.
Qualifications
- Valid CDL Class A license with a clean driving record; experience operating tractor-trailers preferred.
- Proven experience in commercial truck driving, especially over-the-road (OTR) routes involving freight delivery across multiple states.
- Knowledge of refrigerated trailer operation, flatbed securing techniques, tanker handling, and hazardous materials regulations is highly desirable.
- Ability to handle manual transmission trucks confidently and perform manual handling tasks related to load & unload operations.
- Familiarity with GPS navigation tools and route planning software to optimize delivery schedules.
- Strong understanding of FMCSA (Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration) regulations and DOT (Department of Transportation) safety standards.
- Excellent driving skills with a focus on safety, hazard awareness, and compliance; previous delivery driver experience is a plus.
- Ability to manage logistics cargo handling efficiently while adhering to safety protocols for dangerous goods or hazardous materials when necessary.
