JOB SUMMARY
As a staff accountant, you’ll support core accounting functions by handling daily transactions, month-end and year-end close activities, expense and cost tracking, and trust accounting in compliance with state bar and IOLTA requirements. This includes preparing financial schedules and audit support, maintaining accurate and organized records, improving accounting processes and controls, collaborating with internal teams, and contributing to special projects and operational improvements.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
More specifically, you'll:
Perform day-to-day accounting activities, including general ledger entries, account reconciliations, and support of month/quarter/year-end close.
Assist with trust accounting activities and ensure compliance with state bar rules and IOLTA requirements.
Support accurate tracking of firm expenses, case-related costs, and fee-related transactions.
Prepare schedules and supporting documentation for financial reporting and audits.
Assist in maintaining and improving accounting processes and systems to increase efficiency and accuracy.
Support the Controller in monitoring financial controls and identifying opportunities for process improvement.
Collaborate with internal teams to ensure timely and accurate financial information.
Maintain organized and complete financial records in accordance with firm policies and regulatory requirements.
Participate in special projects and ad hoc analyses related to firm growth and operational improvements.
Qualifications:REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Education/Experience
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
Minimum of 2–5 years of accounting experience.
Experience in a professional services environment.
Exposure to month-end close processes and general ledger accounting.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
Working knowledge of GAAP and basic financial reporting principles.
Understanding of, or ability to learn, law firm trust accounting and compliance requirements.
Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy and confidentiality.
Ability to follow established controls, processes, and systems while identifying opportunities for improvement.
Solid organizational and time-management skills.
Ability to communicate clearly and work effectively with cross-functional teams.
Ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
Proficiency with accounting software and Microsoft Excel.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Experience working in a growing organization or supporting process and system improvements.
Experience in a personal injury or contingency-based law firm.
Familiarity with IOLTA trust accounting.
Salary : $80,000 - $100,000
