Camp Teacher
Ramona Convent is in search of Summer Camp Teachers to facilitate our K-6 summer camp program. The ideal candidate is enthusiastic, organized, and enjoys working with children in an active and collaborative summer environment.
Reports To: Camp Director
Program Dates: June 15 – July 24, Training Early June
Camp Hours: 8AM-5PM (Extended Care 7AM-8AM; 5PM-6PM)
Camp Ages: Kindergarten – 6th Grade
Position Overview
The Summer Camp Teacher is responsible for facilitating engaging, hands-on learning experiences that align with weekly camp themes. Camp Teachers create a positive, safe, and energetic environment where campers can explore, collaborate, and learn through play and discovery.
Working under the supervision of the Camp Director, the Summer Camp Teacher leads both small-group and whole-group activities while supervising a team of student leaders who serve as camp counselors. Activities are interdisciplinary in nature and may include elements of science, art, movement, problem-solving, and creative exploration. A flexible curriculum is provided with room for input and creativity.
Key Responsibilities:
Program Facilitation
- Prepare and lead engaging hands-on activities connected to weekly camp themes.
- Facilitate a mix of small-group and large-group experiences that promote creativity, teamwork, and exploration.
- Adapt activities to meet the developmental needs of campers in grades Kindergarten through 6th.
Camp Environment
- Create a safe, welcoming, and inclusive camp environment for all campers.
- Maintain positive group management during camp activities.
- Supervise campers during transitions, activities, and designated camp spaces.
Student Leader Supervision
- Provide direction and support to assigned student leaders serving as camp counselors.
- Delegate appropriate responsibilities to student leaders (assisting with activities, supervising groups, helping campers).
- Model positive leadership and mentorship.
Collaboration
- Work closely with the Camp Director and other camp teachers to implement weekly themes and daily schedules.
- Communicate regularly regarding supplies, activity planning, and camper needs.
Safety & Supervision
- Follow all camp safety procedures and school policies.
- Monitor camper well-being and address concerns promptly.
- Maintain appropriate supervision ratios at all times.
- Comfortable working with mixed-age groups
- Strong leadership and mentorship skills
- Team-oriented and collaborative
Qualifications:
- Experience working with children in Kindergarten through 6th grade
- Teaching experience preferred (credentialed teachers, substitute teachers, or education majors encouraged to apply).
- Ability to lead engaging, hands-on learning experiences, enjoys experiential learning
- Strong organizational and classroom management skills.Positive attitude, flexibility, and enthusiasm for working in a camp environment.
- CPR/First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain)
- Able to pass a background check
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to actively participate in indoor and outdoor activities
- Ability to stand, walk, and engage with campers throughout the day
- Lift and carry materials/boxes up to 30 lbs
Job Type: Full-time
