CNC Maintenance Technician (Overnights)

PURPOSE
The CNC Maintenance Technician ensures continuity and reliability of CNC machining operations by performing preventive and corrective maintenance across mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and control systems. This role focuses on maximizing uptime of CNC lathes, mills, and associated automation equipment while minimizing unscheduled downtime. The technician also contributes to continuous improvement of maintenance practices and supports production teams by quickly diagnosing and resolving equipment issues.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
1. Preventive Maintenance (PM): Develop, schedule, and execute preventive maintenance tasks for CNC equipment in accordance with manufacturer and plant standards. Maintain accurate PM logs, documentation, and equipment service records.
2. Troubleshooting & Repairs: Diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and control system faults on CNC machines, robots, and support equipment. Utilize root-cause analysis to minimize repeat failures and guide corrective actions. Respond promptly to breakdowns ensuring minimal production interruption.
3. Mechanical & Electrical Systems: Perform component replacement/repair (spindles, ball screws, bearings, pumps, motors, drives, control boards, etc.). Inspect, align, and calibrate CNC machine components for precision performance. Work with PLC and CNC controls to test inputs/outputs and verify operational integrity.
4. Continuous Improvement: Recommend upgrades or adjustments to improve machine reliability, efficiency, and safety. Participate in cross-functional teams for process or equipment improvement initiatives.
5. Safety & Compliance: Adhere to all environmental, health, and safety policies including Lockout/Tagout (LOTO). Ensure equipment repairs comply with OSHA, NFPA, and local regulatory standards.
6. Collaboration: Provide technical guidance to operators and production staff on proper machine usage and care. Support installation, setup, and commissioning of new CNC machinery.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS listed below are indicative of the knowledge, skills, and abilities required to be successful in this position.
1. Education & Training:
High school diploma or equivalent required.
Technical/vocational training in industrial maintenance, mechatronics, or a related field preferred.
2. Experience:
1. 5 years of hands-on experience in maintenance of CNC lathes, mills, or other precision machining equipment.
2. Proven background troubleshooting mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems.
3. Familiarity with PLC/CNC control diagnostics (Fanuc, Siemens, Haas, or similar control platforms).
3. Skills & Certifications:
1. Ability to interpret and apply wiring diagrams, hydraulic/pneumatic schematics, and mechanical blueprints.
2. Competence with precision measuring tools (dial indicators, micrometers, laser alignment).
3. Basic knowledge of industrial networking and drives (VFDs, servo motors) is a plus.
4. Certification in industrial maintenance, mechatronics, or related field desirable.
5. OSHA 10/30, LOTO, and electrical safety training preferred.

6. Ability to work overtime hours as necessary.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee while performing the essential duties of this position. Majority of work performed in industrial manufacturing and maintenance area.
1. Spends most time indoors with occasional tasks outside in all-weather conditions for one hour plus.
2. Possible exposure to distraction/uncomfortable noise levels, hot/cold environments and vibration of body or extremities.
Position Type/Expected Hours of Work This is a full-time position, and normal hours of work and days are Monday through Friday, requiring flexibility in hours to support plant and facility needs, with possible overtime and weekend work on short notice.
Travel Some travel is expected for this position.
