Position: Director of Nursing Care
Status: Full-Time
Reports To: Administrator
Supervises: Licensed Vocational Nurses, Direct Care Staff, Personal Care Assistants
Overview of Responsibilities
The Director of Nursing Care is responsible for overseeing the health and well-being of each resident and coordinating services to ensure the appropriate level of care as identified through ongoing assessments. This leader ensures compliance with state regulations, maintains high standards of clinical quality, and fosters a collaborative, supportive work environment. The Director of Nursing may act on behalf of the Administrator when needed.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead, supervise, and support LVNs, direct care staff, and personal care assistants.
- Oversee resident assessments, care plans, and ongoing health monitoring.
- Maintain quality assurance standards and implement improvement plans as needed.
- Ensure resident charts and files comply with Texas Department of Aging and Disability Services requirements.
- Participate in after-hours and weekend on-call rotation.
- Act as Administrator in his or her absence.
- Present a professional appearance and exhibit strong interpersonal professionalism.
- Protect resident health information and maintain strict confidentiality.
- Organize and prioritize tasks to meet resident needs, regulatory guidelines, and customer satisfaction.
Qualifications
- Current RN license in good standing in the State of Texas
- Assisted living experience strongly preferred
- CPR and First Aid certification
- Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills
- Ability to implement and follow detailed clinical care plans
- Ability to maintain accurate and compliant medical records
Skills & Abilities
- Ability to take call after hours and maintain chain of command
- Strong clinical assessment, decision-making, and problem-solving skills
- Ability to work collaboratively with staff, residents, and families
- Ability to meet productivity and documentation expectations
- Full access and responsible handling of Protected Health Information (PHI)
Physical Requirements
This position requires the ability to:
- Speak, hear, read English, and communicate clearly
- Lift up to 25 lbs; push/pull up to 50 lbs
- Walk, stand, and sit for sustained periods
- Perform bending, squatting, kneeling, and full range of motion as needed
- Maintain balance while assisting residents or handling equipment
- Meet "exceptional attendance" expectations to support operational and resident-care needs
