Paraprofessional (in-home)

Position: In-Home Special Education Paraprofessional (2025–2026 School Year) POSITION SUMMARY: The In-Home Special Education Paraprofessional provides individualized instructional and behavioral support to a student receiving educational services in the home environment as part of an IEP or district placement plan. This position works collaboratively with the supervising special education teacher, service providers, and family members to ensure consistent implementation of the student’s educational, behavioral, and therapeutic programs. The paraprofessional will: Support and act in accordance with all district goals, policies, Massachusetts General Laws, and applicable federal and state special education regulations. Assume appropriate roles as adult model and educator in the home setting. Demonstrate knowledge of the student’s needs—educational, behavioral, medical, sensory, and social/emotional—as identified by the multidisciplinary team, and implement individualized strategies accordingly. Maintain strict confidentiality regarding all matters pertaining to students and families. Demonstrate effective organizational skills, time management, and flexibility to meet the needs of the student and the instructional schedule. Participate in required training and team meetings (virtually or in-person, as scheduled). Assume additional duties as assigned by the Special Education Coordinator or supervising teacher. QUALIFICATIONS: Paraeducator license or completion of 60 semester hours of college credit from a regionally accredited institution or an associate degree (or higher) from a regionally accredited institution or a valid Massachusetts Educator License. Prior experience working with students with disabilities preferred, especially in home, community, or therapeutic settings. Ability to travel to and from the student’s home (reimbursement per district policy if applicable). CPR/First Aid certification preferred. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Planning and Preparation Review and follow individualized educational, behavioral, and safety plans developed by the IEP team. Prepare and organize materials for home instruction sessions as directed by the supervising teacher. Observe, collect, and record data on student progress, behavior, and participation. Ensure instructional materials and assistive technology are set up and functioning properly in the home environment. Instruction and Support Implement individualized instructional activities under the direction of the supervising teacher or therapist. Reinforce learning objectives and assist the student in achieving academic, functional, and behavioral goals. Support the student in developing self-help, communication, and independence skills. Follow established behavior intervention and reinforcement systems. Encourage social and emotional growth through structured and natural interactions. Communicate regularly with the supervising teacher regarding daily activities, observations, and student progress. Home Environment and Safety Maintain a professional presence and appropriate boundaries within the home setting. Adhere to all district health and safety protocols, including hygiene, confidentiality, and incident reporting. Ensure the learning area is organized and conducive to instruction. Notify the supervising teacher or administrator immediately of any safety or behavioral concerns. Professional Responsibilities Maintain positive and respectful communication with the student’s family while directing all educational questions to appropriate staff. Participate in scheduled team meetings, trainings, and evaluations. Maintain accurate documentation of service delivery, attendance, and observations. Demonstrate reliability, punctuality, and professionalism in all interactions. Uphold confidentiality and district standards for ethical conduct. OTHER FUNCTIONS: Participate in ongoing professional development to enhance instructional and behavioral support skills. Perform other related duties as assigned to ensure the effective delivery of in-home educational programming. RESPONSIBILITIES: Responsibilities include working under the direct supervision of the supervising teacher and/or special education coordinator, implementing individualized programs using standardized procedures, and communicating observations and updates promptly. The role requires independent judgment and professionalism in a home-based setting, with continual opportunity to impact the student’s educational success. SKILLS REQUIRED: Demonstrated reliability, professionalism, and discretion. Strong communication and interpersonal skills with students, families, and educators. Ability to work independently in the home environment while following established plans. Flexibility and responsiveness to changing needs or schedules. Proficiency with data collection and basic technology (e.g., tablets, Google Workspace, assistive devices). Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. and assist with mobility if required by the student’s plan. WORK ENVIRONMENT: Work is performed primarily in a private home setting with occasional travel to school or community locations. Requires sitting, standing, bending, lifting, and other physical activity as necessary to support the student’s needs. Exposure to normal household conditions and potential risk of illness or injury associated with supporting students with medical or behavioral needs. OTHER REQUIREMENTS: Excellent oral and written communication skills. Demonstrated organizational skills and ability to maintain accurate documentation. Ability to maintain professional boundaries and confidentiality at all times. Annual performance evaluation required. SALARY $19.75 - $24.43 depending on experience
